I purchased a new FX-7811 (2888) from Best Buy for $1,250 while it was on the most recent sale. I haven't opened it yet in case of the event that it gets replaced by a newer model within the 14 day return policy. Since it seems that the FX-7811 has been discontinued, I'm really not sure what to do. At $1250, the computer is a steal, regardless of what future replacement(s) come out. However, I really don't want to open it up to see that in a few weeks they come out with a similarly priced replacement FX laptop that has stronger specs. My only real gripe with the current specs of the 7811 are the CPU, which at 2.26 ghz seems to be a slight bottleneck when doing intense gaming. Other than that, only thing I could really ask for is a Blu-Ray drive (not a huge deal), and a 9800m GTX, but that would likely drive the price up to the $2,000 range, which I would like to stay below.
So do I open the laptop, or should I stick it out another few weeks to see what happens.
Thanks for any input.

Never wait for the next best thing.... you will never own a computer that way.
You bought the 7811 so crack it open and enjoy it.
The best thing to do is to schedul tech purchases and try to stick to them with in a week or so. I've personally chosen nehelems die shrink as the time i'm getting a new laptop. And even though Sandy Bridge will only be about 4 months away from release at that point I'm not going to wait, because there is ALWAYS something better coming out.
At this point there hasnt even been mention of a new FX model so the likely hood of it magically appearing with in the next few days that you have in your 14 day window are slim to none.
Just enjoy your laptop -

Agreed with kamin...that gateway is a steal for 1250 bucks...and the 9800m gts is a solid video card

sell it to me..

Nothing will come out on in the next 14 days i can guarantee that, so just open it and enjoy .

What they all said. If you always wait for the next best thing you'll never spend any time actually enjoying your purchase. The 7811 @ $1250 is a steal. I'd crack it open ASAP just to make sure you have your return window in case there is an issue.

Hey Guys,
I went out to Wendy's today and got a real good burger. Thing is, I don't know if my mom is cooking dinner. Should I wait to eat the burger and risk it getting cold? Or should I eat it and risk not having room for my mom's dinner?
Lol JK open that suckr. People knew about the 7811 for 4 months before its release, you have nothing to worry about. -
wendy sux. and yea open it up.

The likelihood that they will release something with better specs in the $1250 range is extremely low. Consider yourself extremely lucky...

some people could pay a few hundred more for a confirmed stable system. and without wasting time in returns and haggling with BB managers. i could easily pay a little extra for peace of mind.
that said considering the specs. i also doubt they will release something with much better components. imo the 1 gig 9800m gts on the 7801u is a waste. so is sli (on the toshiba). but some people like tweaking and stuff so sli might be good for them to play on. i doubt they would be able to get the gtx200 series into mobile version anytime soon. 9800m gtx would be the only worthy upgrade.
processor wise, they could do the hybrid power which would be good. or go to quad core which would bring the system up to the $2000 range. -

Crack that baby open and use it. You want the 14 days in case something is wrong. Don't waste them. You'll love it.
