Hello all. My 7422's built in DVD-RW is getting worse by the minute. I found a Pioneer DVR-K05 with free shipping which I plan to buy today.
My big problem is: I can't find the way to pop my notebook open. Already removed all screws from below, but the lower half of the case seems to be attached to the chassis. The upper part (where the keyboard is) bends but it won't show what's holding it. There's a couple of screws below the screen, which I cannot reach. I don't want to break anything in the way to opening the machine, thus I ask here for advice.

If anyone has instructions on how to dismantle a Gateway 7422 (or similar, such as any Gateway with a 64 bit AMD), please help me ASAP.

    Thanx

I know I'm several years late to the party, but...

BUMP. I'm also stuck with this... exact same problem but with a MT6456 (yes I know, different model, but the problem is quite exactly the same with same description and all, thought I'd better bump an existing thread). I already got everything out: no HD, no processor, no RAM, no wireless card, no DVD drive... just the bare mobo, and I already removed every single screw I could have access to, even if it seemed totally unrelated, but the bottom part of the case is being held by God-knows-what (it REALLY feels like it's super-glued to the chassis), and the upper part (keyboard) would bend but not pop-out, there are no tabs left to lose, you can bend it from all around, it is being held by something in the middle, but you can't see it, the components on the mobo don't let you see...

By the way, Google reveals absolutely nothing.. everyone seems to be getting it right without much trouble :-S

Don't you remove the rubber stoppers from the screen bezel to reveal the screws, unscrew them to remove the screen bezel, which leads to detaching of screen from bottom half. This allows you to unscrew the screws that were once covered by the screen, which should open up keyboard bezel and so on?

Yes, I found that out about 10 minutes after posting that :-(.... heh heh, do I need to say that it was the first time I opened a laptop? (and the first time I post here)

Anyway, I'm on some major trouble now... I found out why the keyboard was't working well: The keyboard connector (the one that is soldered to the board) is broken... but that's another thread
