I want this. Might sell my 3810t to buy this. The only thing missing that would make it perfect was if it had Arrandale instead of Core 2 Duo.

Anonymous on Engadget says there will also be an Acer branded one. I definitely am getting this or the Acer version, my 3810t can go to my parents.

Yeah after Acer bought out Gateway they will typically release an Acer and Gateway (sometimes even a Packard Bell) version of most of their consumer notebooks.

Alot of times the only thing different will be the case (though sometimes they will change the hardware a little)

Its still a really nice looking tablet. It would be a really nice travel notebook... i might pick one up.

I think at the end, Gateway version will be more in competitive in pricing where Acer will market their as upper tier. Can't wait to find out the price on this.

IMO tablets never really took off cause they cost more and were gimmicky at best.

The OS is not made for tablet work, but most importantly I think the death of tablets was because of the all powerful....mouse.

The mouse has been the source of navigation for many years and a solid OS has been built around it. You can get work done faster with a mouse and a regular computer, thus the death of tablets.

Now that we are hearing rumors of the Apple tablet and an OS to accompany it, I believe everyone else is now scrambling around to create their own tablet.

Quite frankly, if its not faster than a mouse, a tablet is pointless unless its more portable. It seems like computer vendors didn't get this the first time around and are trying again, but probably still don't get it.

Similarly on the flip side, windows mobile sucks with a touch interface cause its designed for a stylus. So an OS designed for a mouse is NOT going to work as a tablet. It needs the whole package for it to work and I'm pretty tired of POS hardware that is being released. Give me something that works right!

You never used XP tablet or Vista on a tablet I assume?

It's not faster than a mouse. But that's not the point. The point is that you can use it while you are standing. Or sitting in a meeting. Rather than having a laptop screen sitting between you and your client, you go slate mode.

My favorite is using the Tablet to sign forms. I've got PDFs of all the forms we got lying around here. I can collect the signatures I need by handing my tablet over and then fax them from my Tablet.

It's more powerful than a smartphone but not as cumbersome as a laptop, which you need a surface to use.

Nope I never used xp tablet. Maybe its convenience didn't outweigh its practicality or didn't get work done as fast. Otherwise tablets would have some form of market.

Maybe when MS incorporates windows surface to it somehow.

You also have to remember this would not just be a tablet! It is the full fledged Netbook form factor with su7300 Dual Core. Performance would be more than adaquate for just about any normal notebooks task and then the tablets extras. Unless they are unreasonable it would be a must have here.

The Tablet's most useful situation IMO is when you are standing. The laptop is great when you have a surface you can type on. But outside of that, it becomes a hindrance.

And Price is another big factor. I'm curious how much this Gateway will cost.
