So I just re-bought a 7811FX the other day finding one for $1014 (new in box) and getting rid of the one for $1304 as it was still within my return period.

My question is regarding the BB warrenty offered. Since the cost is based on the purchase price I have the oppurtunity to pick up a 2 year BB warrenty for $199 or 3 years for $249. This is for their normal coverage less accident forgiveness. Is their warrenty worth it considering the product in question. The warrenty also seems to be "transferable".

Thoughts or experience with BB's extended service plans.

To each is own on getting an extended warranty.

I wouldn't buy one for a computer from a retailer. Remember those warranties don't cover software issues, and they can try and tie issues to that.

I'm sure others have been saved by having one though.

I'd be interested to see what Gateway offers in a ext warranty though.

As far as the "product in question" i wouldn't get the warranty based on it being a 7811. if something is wrong with it do to that you'll know within a year (probably a day or week tops). My best buy said the will honor the factory warranty, so i don't have to deal with gateway directly. And unless you get accident protection and smash it at the end for the latest upgrade, i don't see it being worth while. Just my opinion.

I am not a Fan of BB warranty because if something goes wrong you are out of a laptop till they get around to fixing it. And it could take a long long time.

I bought it but in retrospect I didn't really need to. Maine law mandates that retailers warrenty laptops for 3 years reguardless if you buy the warrenty or not. Check with your state laws and see what they say.

I had a friend buy a laptop from CC and it failed about 15 months from purchase. CC told him he was SOL so he went to the state and they took his information and sent CC a letter telling them they had to replace the failed Laptop. He had a new laptop a few days later.

This is information I am sure anyone who sells extended warrenties does not want you to know.

Be sure to look into Squaretrade Warranties before looking at a Best Buy warranty. www.squaretrade.com

Hmm a three year warrenty through Squaretrade is only $149.99 or $100 less than through BB.

How do Squaretrade warrenties rate in comparision to BBs? Also I have never had any dealings with Squaretrade how are they for working with/customer service.

Also, I could not see if Squaretrade replaces laptop batteries, with the BB plan you get one replacement battery as part of the deal.

I guess the reason I am asking all this is, I have to make sure that this laptop makes it a full three years so I figured a warrenty now might help ensure that goal.

look into Squaretrade reviews, they're ridiculously good. I would email them asking them to match BB's battery policy of 1 replacement free, I'm almost positive they would.

So does Gateway offer any extended warranty? If not, then it seems Squaretrade might be the way to go.

Also remember to check your credit card terms and conditions. You may find in there that warranties are increased at no additional charge to you. American Express tacked a whole extra year onto my P-7811 FX free of charge just as long as I keep using their credit card.

I decided to get the one year accidental replacement warranty for $100. The next step up thru BB was 2 years for $350, I couldn't see paying an extra $250 just for 1 extra year of coverage. I do have two young kids, so having the accidental coverage is a nice thing.

Holy dictatorship! So what are Maine's laws on Gummy Bears? How in the heck did any legislature get around to addressing length of laptop warranty?

Nice thing for laptop owners however. I could use it on my Everex. :p
