EDIT: Please, don't download and install BIOS until some minor issues are worked out. Stick with the 9c.* series BIOSThank you BMW and Quadzilla for your efforts.
Turns out Gateway stopped working on the 7811FX BIOS when they completed 9c.10.00, August 28th 2008. This was the beginning of Quad-Core support being implemented, but it's not the finished product. Not to say they won't bring a new BIOS when there is a US Quad core version of this model..but until then, they aren't doing any further coding. I did however, receive a copy of the BIOS code-named Black Hill for the new Packard Bell iPower GX. This is revision 10, and is the BIOS being shipped with the new PB model. Actually, this BIOS is the 7811FX BIOS renamed, and then implemented on the new systems using the PB logo. It *is* quad-core ready, and also supports overclocking if the CPU is an extreme CPU.(x7800, x9000, x9100, qx9300) Now, I don't have my 7811FX any longer, otherwise I'd be the test dummy for this one. So, instead..can I get any volunteers, or a volunteer who would like to install and attempt to OC their extreme CPU? Be forewarned, the flash screen will no longer say Gateway, it will be the PB Logo. The hardware of the 2 models is identical, aside from customer swapable items..this BIOS should not have any issues flashing and functioning with the 7811.

This is the DOS installing version, there is not a Winflash model available yet. Create a DOS bootable USB or floppy, then extract .zip contents to drive. Reboot using bootable media. When at commnd promp just type "bios.bat" and hit enter. It will handle the rest.
Just in case there are any issues, make *sure* you have a second bootable device available with the current 9c.08.00 BIOS.. or using the same bootable media, create a folder containing the 9c.08 BIOS as well. But, lets hope you don't have to go this route. Also, there is a emergency boot recovery method available in the event of a worst case scenario.
Let me know how it turns out.![]()
-
lol I'll be watching...
-
The BIOS is from Wistron, I was just warned to have a backup of my old BIOS just in case it had any problems. Oh, and if ya compare the 9c.08.00 BIOS to this one, you'll notice they're the exact same size down to the byte. This is a production BIOS, not testing or Beta. Just that it's meant for PB cause of flash screen and unlocked multipliers on extremes.
-
The real question is, when will there be a new BIOS available for 6860FX? Never?
-
why did you get that robson thing anyway ? a 2ed hdd ?
-
probably never, what are you missing in your 6860fx bios?
-

hummm wish i had an extreme proc. If someone doesnt test this by friday I'll probably step up to the plate, but i have too much homework to be messing around right now.
Forgot to ask, does the PB come with a better heatsink? Would it be possible to use it in our 7811s? -
-
the pb was advertised as a quad core notebook.
-
The PB does support quad-core, yes. It does support extreme, yes. Not sure if they lock the multiplier at some point..but both are supported. And The heatsink should work fine that comes with the 7811. It worked well with the x9100, only other difference would be the quad setup. But, it looked to me that there's plenty of surface area. Then again, I was just looking at pics and didn't have it in my hands.
And what is the name of the chic in Dook's avie? -
And Quad-core support, I assume? -
I've got the newest BIOS for the other FX models as well.. Here's the revisions since the 94.28 that Gateway re-posted.

It's gone from 94.28 to 94.31, being the newer with VT Enabled for CPU and such.. not sure if I should post a new thread for it's download or not.. But, lemme know if anyone is interested in it. -
-
what quad cpu will you drop in your 6860 ? mind you they are all 1066 fsb wise, on best scenario it will d/c and you will end up with a quad celeron
as to o/c its already there with x-cpus
vt is the major issue, but its hackable with .26 bios
-
And, lemme know if you'd prefer any version in between 94.01 and 94.31.. here's the 94.31 BIOS. And I'll throw up a quick thread for it.
Gateway FX 94.31 BIOS with VT Enabled, and OC'ing of Extreme CPU. -
what is "VT" e?
-
this
1111111111
just to add if you ran a x86 os and try hosting an x64 os that is not possible without vt enabled, also some claim it provides performance boost for some application/games (have seen no numbers too support this). -
so, royk..lemme know how it works.
-
ohh i see....would flash if my laptop if my laptop didnt die
-
Some manufacturers sadly disable it on their notebooks, giving no option in the BIOS to enable/disable it like on some other computers. You can try to re-enable it if you hack it though, thought it can be dangerous.
The benefit of AMD systems is that manufacturers cannot lock it off, it is always enabled as long as the processor supports it unlike with Intel which gives manufacturers the choice of locking it off.

Very nice Rahul..
+rep to add to your 42 green dots.
-
-
I'm scared to try it
-
rumor on the streets is, it will make you turn fruity. Kiddin
but really, it may. Ya never know.
-
Someone with big testicles try this please..then i will slap it on and let the world know if it's Extreme cpu supported!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

custom90gt Doc Mod Super Moderator
lol, i'll try friday, i cant afford to have my computer down till then (if something was to go wrong). You're the one who purchased a quadcore to try...
-
says bad command or file name...Wheres the sweet windows installer? lol
-
yea, BMW ;P would it make you feel better if I renamed the BIOS to imv-029.wph?
-
-
what did it not do? You booted to command prompt.. and..?
-
edit did you type "bios.bat" or bios.bat ? No need for quotations.
-
i tried both...I'm gonna redo the flash drive and retry. -
just as a heads up..when it boots, do a 'dir' and make sure the bios.bat file is there in the directory you're trying to execute it from. *shrugs*
-
I installed it and can get into bios but there are no sliders and it won't load windows..soo off to put ver 26 on.
-
Ok installed it think everythings ok but it litterally uninstalled every single component in my machine and it has to reidentify every thing again and also i think its calling the video card something different but will report more as i find it.
Ok now it i have to reactivate windows lol which means all the games i had installed through DRM like mass effect Deadspace(just bought today) and mercenaries 2 will require me to reactivate them cause it will waste one activation for each as well lol Wow never saw a bios basically turn my computer into a whole new machine and its still reinstalling all my devices .
Looks like i bit off abit more then i can chew costly upgrade if you have any DRM crap on your machine so be prepared . had i known in advance i would have made a new backup of my machine prior to this. -
Samething happening here... -
oh dam quad.. it's the SLIC table. Uhm.. Did your machine boot up?
Oh, and did you have the PB logo?
And I apoligize..didn't think bout the Vista SLIC. If you flash back to 9c BIOS all should be good. I apologize. -
PB logo is there and boots into vista with no drivers.
-
Ya mine booted fine and i reinstalled my video drivers it reinstalled everything else though ok . cant reactivate windows though hehe ahh well and ya it says PB now at the bios which is purple boot screen but was weird it said that the Nvidia bios is not meant for retail at boot but is an engineering testing thing or something of that nature so not sure if this was ready for prime time.
-
lol..what's up with the Sig? And, Quad..before you go flashing anything..gimme a sec. gonna PM you a link.. try this.
-
Either way E- thanks for the continued help i may just leave it and deal with the consequences because if i keep the machine or who ever ends up with it would be nice knowing full quad support i suppose.
-
Ver 26 is back on and vista is the same way i left it!
I'm about ready to sell this 7811fx and buy a barebone 840 so i can have sliders and backlit keyboard! -
+rep guys, thank you
-
So the bios worked with P7811fx, but didn't do what was expected? No Quad support or OC for X processors?
-
No OC for sure.. the BIOS did install and boot fine. Ya gotta pop in your serial number from the base of your computer. I mean, it makes a new packard bell.
Quad support should be applied at that point. I emailed wistron for more details.
-
1. Risk our $$ for trial-and-errors of different chips.
2. Risk our 7811FX if the new BIOS does not do the job.
Let us know how it goes. -
Well, the QX9300 will likely OC. Gateway has a thing where they don't allow you to OC past 3.0 GHz..that's why the x9100 is a waste in the machine. However, the qx9300 starts at 2.53 GHz, and that leaves a lot of room to make it to 3.0 GHz. So, quite possibly it will allow the quad core to OC. That's why I think they made it a point to allow OC'ing and Quad support.
-
Ok.. I just received an email from Maggie at Wistron, response to the one I sent her last night. OC'ing is possible past 3.0 GHz, the other details will be available in 9c.08.00 thread.
-
Hi, I have x9000 stock 2.8ghz would any of these bios updates allow to overclock to 3.0ghz or is there just no option at all to overclock. Thanks
-
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
You can already get to 3.0 with the x9000 you just change it in the BIOS section. We're wanting to go beyond 3.0gHz. My target is 3.4 or 3.6...but heck if 5.8gHz is reachable i'll see what happens never know i might still be stable at stock voltage there and have the god chip
It will show 2.8 just change that to 3.0, done deal
New BIOS for 7811FX? Quad-support, Overclockable, G15-D10, are you ready?
