    CAll me useless but my new T9600 is at the post office and i'm at work doing some quick searches for a 7811 CPU uprade guide and not coming up with anything. I've never replaced a CPU before and need a little guidance. Can someone either throw me a link or give me a quick "how to". My AS5 should also arrive today. =)
    Thanks for all the help!

    Turn it off and remover the battery

    puss the power button for 3 seconds to remove excess energy

    flip it over and remove the back cover (the CPU one)[largest one]

    unscrew heatsink

    "CAREFULLY" remove heatsink careful not to screw up thermal pads

    unlock CPU and carefully pull it out

    Replace with new CPU and apply thermal compound

    reverse all steps to reassemble the computer

    Its a really easy job and even never doing it before you should be able to have it knocked out in 15-20 minutes

    Enjoy the new CPU

    szer i saw you were looking for a new cpu, i got mine for 270$ qs "same as retail" version from extremeprocessor on ebay. i tried to haggle him lower but he said his price was already super low, but it's always worth a shot! it arrived in 7 days from taiwan i believe.

    THe t9800 is pretty much the king of the hill in the FX you get all the speed and a cheaper price compaired to the x9100 (due to no overclock in the 78xx series) and a lower TDP 2.93 isnt much lower than my x9000 runs at even over clocked so you should have a slight edge in computer power.

    Saying that i think the t/p 9600 will probably be the sweet spot for most people with this set up. You get the best price vs preformance ration at that level i would say. Kinda like the t9300 was the best bang for the buck in the 68xx series

    well i think i'm still breaking it in... but i do believe WAR performed a bit better =) at first things almost seemed slower but now they are getting snappy... also i am drinking =( so who knows... i'll let you know by the end of the week how i feel about this upgrade. Right now i feel i had the ~$300 to do it and it is worth it, if i didn't have xtra xmas money however i dont think it would be worth pinching your wallet for.

    To apply AS5 properly you need to put a pea-sized dot in the center of the heatspreader, squash it with the heatsink and make sure that it spreads out evenly and thinly. The goal is to spread as little as possible while making the coat even. AS5 curing time is 200 hours, but a lot of claim thats BS.

    i did the thin line between the cores method... currently temps are 30c for both core and while playing WAR for a couple our didn't pass 55c

    So does QX9300 or the Q9100 work in the P-7805u? I remember reading something on here that the new quad cores won't work in a P-7811.

    As in, mount the heatsink which will effectively spread the TIM over the heatspreader, not little squash and then keep squashing.

    You're much better off spreading it manually before you mount the heatsink, with a credit card or razor blade or similar. That way you have much more control of thickness and coverage.

    On Actic silvers website, it shows putting a dot in the middle, then placing the heat sink, every prosser is diffrent, I didn't belive it untill I tried it on my desktop duo core, I put a line down the middle, then put the heat sink on and it brought down my temps another 6% :)

    Hyda, long time buddy;
    I just got though playing Everquest 2 on it, its nice, but to tell you the truth, not too much difference, all the FX's run about the same, its all how you set them up, I love this new one, its fast in loading apps, and running them, I am just ticked off Gateway got cheap on the WiFi card, oh well :)

    @szer
    To answer your pm, I just put a thin line between the cores it was very easy. i let the heatsink do the spreading... i was a little nervous about ruining something too but it really is just straight forward and easy. just make sure you turn the screw on the procssor enough it kinda goes then catches but can still be turned a bit more. basically the processor will be laying loose in it's spot when turned enough.

    Yeap, the cpu kind of "clicks" when it unlocks, so yes you would need just a tad bit more effort to do that final unlock (or lock also). The whole thing sorta shifts over too letting you know it's loose.

    @Szer
    As for monitoring my temps, nope, it's some ES model. To be specific, Q6KV ES. However, even though hwmonitor doesn't see anything, somehow when I run orthos, the fans spin faster as time passes. I'm guessing the bios knows what the temp is? That part I'm not sure about.
