CAll me useless but my new T9600 is at the post office and i'm at work doing some quick searches for a 7811 CPU uprade guide and not coming up with anything. I've never replaced a CPU before and need a little guidance. Can someone either throw me a link or give me a quick "how to". My AS5 should also arrive today. =)
Thanks for all the help!

Turn it off and remover the battery
puss the power button for 3 seconds to remove excess energy
flip it over and remove the back cover (the CPU one)[largest one]
unscrew heatsink
"CAREFULLY" remove heatsink careful not to screw up thermal pads
unlock CPU and carefully pull it out
Replace with new CPU and apply thermal compound
reverse all steps to reassemble the computer
Its a really easy job and even never doing it before you should be able to have it knocked out in 15-20 minutes
Enjoy the new CPU -
Thank you as soon as i get a chance i'll let everyone know how it goes!

Cool can't wait, this is one of the cpu's I'm considering right now, I just don't have the money currently to get an extreme or qc, but this should prove to be a nice upgrade congrats!
-
i didn't have any rubbing alcohol to clean the pieces last night. I just picked some up so i'm gonna throw it in tonight! i'll post new before and after 3dMark06 results just for kicks.
-
nice... and do a write up and photos on installation as well
-
Kamin already did a write up above =) that's what i'm gonna follow
-
szer i saw you were looking for a new cpu, i got mine for 270$ qs "same as retail" version from extremeprocessor on ebay. i tried to haggle him lower but he said his price was already super low, but it's always worth a shot! it arrived in 7 days from taiwan i believe.
-
yeah.. i am also looking to buy either the t9600 or the t9800 (if difference aren't that much)... thanks for the recommendation... btw did he provide thermal pads and grease? or do i have to buy it on my own?

Saying that i think the t/p 9600 will probably be the sweet spot for most people with this set up. You get the best price vs preformance ration at that level i would say. Kinda like the t9300 was the best bang for the buck in the 68xx series -
i'll put my chinese speaking skill to the test to negotiate the t9800 1st, followed by the t9600 if the price is not right lol

here is before and after windows score for what it's worth =) 3dmark06 to come!!!

was hoping for a 5.9 =( hopefully this is on par..
-
i guess you need a t9800 to hit 5.9?
-
Well at least 3dmark06 scores went up about a thousand!!! clocks at 698/988/1798 both run on external monitor at 3dmark default res using nVidia 178.24 drivers. only difference is stock p8600 and t9600 upgrade.

It really is as easy as everyone says.
now to see if WAR improved too
oh yeah and it didn't include thermal goo but i got some AS5 on ebay for like $5 -
So does your computer feel faster?
-
well i think i'm still breaking it in... but i do believe WAR performed a bit better =) at first things almost seemed slower but now they are getting snappy... also i am drinking =( so who knows... i'll let you know by the end of the week how i feel about this upgrade. Right now i feel i had the ~$300 to do it and it is worth it, if i didn't have xtra xmas money however i dont think it would be worth pinching your wallet for.
-
To apply AS5 properly you need to put a pea-sized dot in the center of the heatspreader, squash it with the heatsink and make sure that it spreads out evenly and thinly. The goal is to spread as little as possible while making the coat even. AS5 curing time is 200 hours, but a lot of claim thats BS.
-
i did the thin line between the cores method... currently temps are 30c for both core and while playing WAR for a couple our didn't pass 55c
-
That's also a fine method to do it
.
-
So does QX9300 or the Q9100 work in the P-7805u? I remember reading something on here that the new quad cores won't work in a P-7811.
-
Squash it with the heatsink? lol
-
-
-
You're much better off spreading it manually before you mount the heatsink, with a credit card or razor blade or similar. That way you have much more control of thickness and coverage.

momergil was the t9600 $270 shipped or you have to pay some other fees or shipping fees. and last but not least what did you use to pay? (paypal or etc)
Thanks bro -
On Actic silvers website, it shows putting a dot in the middle, then placing the heat sink, every prosser is diffrent, I didn't belive it untill I tried it on my desktop duo core, I put a line down the middle, then put the heat sink on and it brought down my temps another 6%

Hey flynnaz,
how ya liking that 7805u compared to your 6831 game wise or video encoding?

I just got though playing Everquest 2 on it, its nice, but to tell you the truth, not too much difference, all the FX's run about the same, its all how you set them up, I love this new one, its fast in loading apps, and running them, I am just ticked off Gateway got cheap on the WiFi card, oh well -
-
zerg, can your cpu monitor the temperature? is it the Q4JN B1 ES or the QJFL E0 QS

@szer
To answer your pm, I just put a thin line between the cores it was very easy. i let the heatsink do the spreading... i was a little nervous about ruining something too but it really is just straight forward and easy. just make sure you turn the screw on the procssor enough it kinda goes then catches but can still be turned a bit more. basically the processor will be laying loose in it's spot when turned enough. -
Yeap, the cpu kind of "clicks" when it unlocks, so yes you would need just a tad bit more effort to do that final unlock (or lock also). The whole thing sorta shifts over too letting you know it's loose.
@Szer
As for monitoring my temps, nope, it's some ES model. To be specific, Q6KV ES. However, even though hwmonitor doesn't see anything, somehow when I run orthos, the fans spin faster as time passes. I'm guessing the bios knows what the temp is? That part I'm not sure about. -

Lol , I think I put like half or 3/4 a millimeter of AS5 on my cpu. But after tons of orthos stress testing, no problems. Too bad I don't know how high my temps go!
-
can someone make a video of how to upgrade the cpu and post it on youtube for us noobs
I want to upgrade to one of these

yeah just tear apart ur laptop and u'll figure it out. If you read this entire thread u'll see I was a little nervous at first, but once u start it really Is THAT simple!!!
-
Don't say tear =p But yea, search gateway cpu upgrade or something. There's a guide with some simple pics. If anything sounds strange, just open up your computer and all will be clear.
-
It defintely simple if you have any experience. I upgraded to the T9600, which was the best decision I made. I love the new cpu.
I did take a few pics back when I did the install. Nothing major, but might give a better idea.
