So I've heard some hubub about new ddr3 ram and was wondering if it would happen to be compatible with the fx pc's namely my 6860 anyone have any idea or still to early to tell? I'm guessing it has to be compatible with the MOBO?

    Just curious thanks

DDR3 RAM slots don't fit in the DDR2 RAM slots that come with your 6860. At any rate, performance is largely similar.

Here's a picture from Ken at gentechpc. They have different pins and form factor so a mobo designed to fit DDR2 can not take DDR3 ram.

As said, it wont work, but dont worry about it. It provides almost no noticable performance increase. ;)

Cool thanks for the info. A friend mentioned it and kinda insinuated it would be substantial. Sounds negligible however... again thank you all

The performance difference is small but it is there. The most noticeable difference between DDR3 and DDR2 will be in the power consumption - DDR3 uses less.
