The new line of FX Desktops were announced today and they have been redesigned. It is very possible that we will see a Gateway Laptop as well. They went with the latest ATI for the desktop so I would guess we may see ATI in the new ones. Interesting news though. You can view the new FX desktop at the main Gateway website. :D

They had better create some i7 models and also offer some with SSD's. :D

Why offer ones with SSD? Getting your own is always better and cheaper.

Core i7 with an ATI HD5870 ( fedup hearing about Nvidia GPU issues). Those two would be a sweet combination for sure. Wish the market as a whole roll out USB 3 soon.

they should try and keep it slender like the current FX series. Either take the orange/black/grey color scheme and apply it to other colors; blue, green, red. Pop some matching backlit keys in there and it'd be awesome.

Or pull an asus and go all black, matte finish, backlit keys, maybe a 15 inch varient?

bring in an I5 or arrendale i7 with switchable graphics, and ati dedicated gpu and I'm there!

    My prediction is 1 model with a mid i5 + 1600x900 + 4GB ram + 320/500 HD + ATI 5870/5850 or Nvidia 360 GTS for sub $1000

And an i7 model around $1,200

Even though 16:9 might not be what we all want it would be significant to get a new chassis. I'm excited to see what they bring out since the statement about the Desktops said they want to stay in the competitive market they have been in with the FX line. That includes our laptops. I expect it to be in line with the redesign you see in the FX desktop. If i had to guess some of the styling will look somewhat like Alienware because thats what the curves in the desktop remind me of. I'd also guess the orange/red tint styling colors will continue as a brand style in the new design.

The desktop has less orange. We could get an all black notebook with an orange FX logo.

And if they are really new FX notebooks coming out, they better be announced quick because I am looking at the G73 as well.

    I want 15" and 17" FX notebooks.

As a former owner of the Gateway M-6864FX and Gateway P-6831FX I think they are both legends that need a refresh.

For a 15" I'd like: backlit KB, i5, 5670 (or 5770 if the TDP works) and 1600*900 screen.

Something to make me regret wasting money on Dellienware.

absolutely with you on that man. I'd like to see them go with that MSI resolution of 1680x1050 or a full 1080 screen. But if its got i5 or arrendale i7 with switchable graphics, ati card, backlit keyboard and at least 1600x900 res Im there!

Nice find. I hadn't seen that one yet. I haven't been a fan of ATI but my Gateway laptop has been stellar. I'd buy another FX if it was a considerable upgrade without a doubt.

    What in shipping?

Component wise you will see minor change when going i5 - low end i7 but when you bump up to i7-9** thats when things start to cost :S.

Right. That goes without saying. I'm wondering if they'll be able to keep them as affordable as they are with the i7s. It'd be nice to see them in the series, but i cant see them putting them in the laptops until they're more affordable. Which means a much longer wait. I'm not sure why they took them all of the website. They could be selling them up until the update couldn't they.

I imagine they will be i5's with 260GTX. The stupid move would be to go to 360GTS which Toshiba has done. I can't understand how the people incharge of that department thought "Hey for our next line lets put a new, yet less powerful GPU in!"

They will if they can get the 360 cheaper. It's not a huge difference, and most people won't care. Also, new silicon from nVidia means there's less likelihood of another "oopsie" down the road.

Yea. It would make sense to but the 360s in if they're cheaper, especially if they want to put i5's in them. But I dont see why people would choose that when theres Core 2s, with 260s that run everything fine for less than the average cost of an FX. Do you think we could see 15 inch variants? Like Ludvig pointed out they already have a good start. Or maybe a chassis redesign. I honestly see them needing to do something significant to make them stand out. They're beginning to get dated.

Not to burst you bubble but we are talking a computer that has always been one step below top of the line GPU and several steps below CPU I think your asking too much

Yeah, I'm moving back to the States (from the UK) in the summer, so I hope the new line will be out by then. I'm finding it hard not be enticed by the Alienware M11x at the minute, even though it's a much smaller machine. I was kind of hoping for a happy medium between 17" and 11" - is there a 14/15" laptop that packs this kind of punch and comes in around $1000?
