I just got word of a new FX that should be launching around the 22nd. The model I saw has a C2D P8700 and 4GB of RAM with sticker price of $1050. Unfortunatly thats all I remember at the moment but I can probably get some more specs tomorrow. Based on that price though, I assume its going to just be the same 'ol FX just with Win7.

Thats probably just the 7809 that you saw. Or maybe a 7901.
We havent really heard anything else from gateway since those were announced (7809 US and 7901 foreign) -
Had a new model number...Ill get it today, but I think it was 7915. The 15 was in there for sure. lol.

ok, i'll bite.
So where did you see this at. What country do you live in.
and How soon today?
I'm gitting the itch bad because i'm having to buy my wife an M15x from Alienware and its going to rock compared to my 6860 so i'm currently feeling a bit underpowered
Though with them waiting this long for a new release if its just coming with p8700 and that general era hardware Gateway will have offically lose its best bang for the buck title, even if it will still have alot of superior features to the Asus. This late in the game it needs a quad at least and it wouldnt be too far reaching with an i7 instead of C2Q -
OK... details still suck... but heres what I know.
P-7915U FX Core 2 Duo P8700, 4GB of Ram and a 320GB Hard Drive.
ETA: 10-25-09 at Best Buy Estimated Price: 1049.99
Oh, and Im in the US. Thats all have for now. Its probably just a cheaper version of whats out now, just with Win 7. -

Did you happen to see if it was the 9800GTS or the 260GTX GPU?
Thanks for getting the info. Its nice that there will be an FX back in Best Buy, but it seems a bit "late"... i really lack a better word to put there.
This should have been released weeks/months ago with a Win7 upgrade and they could have been making money off of it this whole time. -
Nope. I was wondering the same thing. But I assume its still the 9800 based on the price.
-
That would be extremely peculiar if it had the 9800 since it's the new series... It would seem to just be a reissue of the 7809u, then, with a smaller hard drive. It also wouldn't match up with the P-79xx series info found in Gateway's support center that was posted in another thread.
-
Maybe that's just the BB version? And other sites will have better ones?
plz Gateway... plz
thanks for the info btw -
Yes, definitely thanks for the info. My uncontrollable shaking in anticipation of a purchase has reduced somewhat.
-
Sweet. I've been waiting on this. For that price and a 260GTX, it'd be super! Plan on getting one next month so lets hope its that. would care less if they change the rest (from the 7809u)
COME ON GATEWAY!! -
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
If it only has the 9800 in it again then its just a rehashed 7809 (albeit a bit cheaper) and a complete failure of a launch -
Id bet money it will be the 260mGTX.. Asus managed to do it for around $1000.00 .. Only thing to hope for is that its not some underclocked version of it, but even so its nothing a hefty OC wont fix
.. GPU cooling was always pretty darn good on these models so i dont really see the need for the underclocked version since these machines had dedicated fans for the GPU/CPU as where both the Asus models share the same fan to cool both...
-
at least its got the P8700 in it, so even without a new GPU (although i pray they've improved it) it wouldn't be all that bad, considering j&r are pricing the 7809u at $1,199.99

260GTS is based on the new Nvidia architecture but knowing Gateway that will not be happening...
The 17inch Asus at Bestbuy had the P8700 in it as well, along with the downclocked version of the 260mGTX, 6gigs of DDR2 ram and a 500gig HD, all for the original price of i believe $1099.00 (price went up after a month or so) .. So i would say the Gateway will certainly have the 260 as well.. Launching a new system with the 9800 just doesnt sound feasible since that part has long since passed.. I owned all the FX 17inch machines at one point and they were all awesome for the $$$ .. 6831 to 6860 to 7811 then the 7805..

is the power consumption the same/similar?

I would take a guess that it would be armed with a GTX 260M. Well, the new Gateway FXes here (In Singapore) are selling with GTX 260M, Gateway P7905g. And I don't think Gateway would want to limit themselves with a GT S, when a GT X version is already made available in this part of the globe; and the machine is capable of handling the GTX. I'm sure they would follow suit. Just personal opinion and guess...

Not sure about the US versions however. -
For that price (about $2150) I'm surprised it doesn't have a blu-ray disk! Way too expensive!
@flyguy. Think you could check on the GPU and let us know? -

Me thinks the Singaporeans are totally ripped off!!! -

Yes, so as most laptops here in SG, not only gateway. REALLY REALLY a total ripoff. Alot of us import from the US instead. Like XoticPC for Sager laptops.
The prices here are ridiculous, as a Singaporean myself. It ain't worth the penny. It should be cheaper in the US. Definitely. I'm just showing an example GTX 260M Gateway FX machine. -

Its the most amazing card nVidia has came out with in a while. -
ok. nice. i suppose that would keep the heat level low enough as well. Any chance Karim you can get someone on the inside (gateway) to shed some light on this.
-
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
I wish... as much as i've tried, i have never been able to get an "inside man" from gateway that has been willing to leak anything to me. Though i suppose i can try some more, it would be very helpful to us (every other company seems perfectly willing to do this, just not gateway)

get someone over at cnet or notebookreview to snoop around?
-
Nothing new i gather..

So, does anybody else think that $1050 price figure above might actually be dealer cost?
-
The 7805 initially sold for $1050, so maybe that's not dealer cost? I know it's a different model, but you never know. -
I am curious too, keep us updated. Thank you.
-
Cross fingers! -
My guess is Best Buy is going to be flooded with new models to coincide with the release of Windows 7. I think that may be accurate for just about all retailers. Judging by the amount of machines that have suddenly disappeared over the past few weeks, I think we're going to get bombarded with new models all across the board. -
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
Oh yeah the weekend of the 22nd is going to be big for computer retailers/makers/M$ because of the Win7 release and the new machines coming out.
I would have hoped that if gateway had waited this long we would get a surprise offering of a i7 machine, but i have a feeling that while a really good buy the FX model this time around might be a bit too little too late. I hope not though. For the 1050 its a really good price (still one of the best bang for your buck computers available) -
Awesome, I hope this drives down the cost of refurb and used 7811's
even more bang for buck. -
Subbed to see what happens. I noticed the BB website is suspiciously low on laptops... like, seriously... the most expensive one they have listed outside of Mac's is the $999 Asus 15.6"
I haven't been keeping up, so it's nice to see the NVIDIA finally put out a new mobile card with newer architecture. Any info on if the 260mGTS is faster than a 260mGTX? -
For what it's worth, Notebookcheck.com has it just about on par with the GTX. It's a little lower on the scale, but not a whole lot.
-
-
Guys the FX series will never get an i7 at its current price. Stop dreaming.

The biggest problem with the Asus that BestBuy has is the gimped cooling system. They only have one fan cooling the GPU and the CPU so it leads to alot worse thermal issues. That is one reason their GTX card is downclocked a good bit so it doesnt overheat.
I really like Asus and the fact they are bringing out good deals on budget gaming systems (much how Gateway became famous again with the FX line) but where as gateway would skimp on things like mic quality and web cam quality, Asus seems to be trying to save money by skimping on the importing things like the cooling system.
New FX coming for Win7 launch.
