New Gateway FX BIOS 94.31 with VT enabled - Not for 7811FX

Gateway FX 94.31 BIOS with VT Enabled, XD enabled, and OC'ing of Extreme CPU. This BIOS is meant for the 6000FX Series of Gateway, not the 7811 series. It's the final BIOS update provided by Wistron. From April of 2008.

You must use a DOS USB bootable media, extract the contents of .zip to that media. Reboot, and at the command prompt just type "A1R3100.BAT" - Or, rename the .BAT file to BIOS.BAT and then when you reboot, type BIOS.BAT(for those with memory problems, or no pen). Will flash and reboot..

Well, just thought I'd post it up here.. if you're interested, feel free to give it a try. iAmTheAnimal confirmed that after the flash, Intel Virtualization Technoldy and No Execute Mode Mem Protection are now options in the new BIOS. However, still can't clock over 3.0 GHz. Any other results will be posted.

one sec..there is a crysis recovery built in to the system.. lemme read the manual.

here's half of it..

4.4. Boot Block Feature
Boot Block function provides a safe solution to recover system BIOS in case of BIOS code in flash memory is corrupted. BIOS provided Crisis mode to support Boot Block function provides a safe solution to recover system BIOS in case of BIOS code in flash memory is corrupted. There have way to enter Crisis Mode:
BIOS corrupted, Boot Block function will enter Crisis mode automatically
Hold the press of “Fn + ESC + Power Button” button and then press Power button to enter Crisis Recovery Process from USB Floppy.
While system do the boot block POST, only necessary components are initialized, and the security block (ex. Password) will not be erased after this procedure is completed.


4.4.1. How to Create the Crisis Recovery Disk
If we are unable to boot our system and successfully load the Operation System, the BIOS may have been corrupted, in which case we will have to use the Crisis Recovery Disk to update the current corrupted BIOS. Below is the procedure how to create a crisis recovery disk.
1. Ensure you have this zip file ‘CRISDISK.ZIP’. (It can be gotten from BIOS source code.)
2. Unzip the contents of CRISDISK.ZIP into a local directory, presumably c:\crisdisk.
3. Insert a clean disk into drive A. (ex: USB FDD)
4. Run this file ‘WINCRIS.EXE’.
5. Write protect and label the Crisis Recovery Disk.

 

Don't think it's in the manual but johnksss found out how to do it I think. Let me have a search.

4.4.2. How to Update the Crisis Recovery Disk
If the BIOS image (BIOS.ROM) changed due to an update or bug fix, we can easily update the Crisis Recovery Disk. Simply copy the new BIOS.ROM image onto the Crisis Recovery Disk.

4.4.3. How to Recover the Corrupted BIOS
When BIOS on the Flash ROM has been corrupted, we can do boot block to recover the BIOS. Below is the necessary procedure.
1. Insert the Crisis Recovery Disk. (Onto USB FDD)
2. Press and hold the key” Fn + ESC + Power Button” go into the boot block path.
3. Then boot block BIOS will update the current corrupted BIOS.

 

Found it:

1: pull battery out
2: hold fn key down
3: then hold esc key down
4: then push power button

Is this a Gateway BIOS or Parkard Bell? Gateway I assume reading your post.

I'm assuming this will unlock higher multipliers too?

All i know is it's got the XD Support, Virtualiztion Technology, and an unlocked multiplier for extreme CPUs. Id have already flashed it myself, but I can't. Just bringing it here, thought maybe someone could use it more than myself.

 

My old 6860 has already been shipped out to its new master, but my roommates brother has a 6831 that we may try it on.

 

Ok just flashed it. Was a bit nervous being that I haven't got a USB FDD here.

Still can't overclock beyond 3.0GHz

New options in BIOS:

No Execute Mode Mem Protection: Enabled / Disabled
Intel Virtualization Technology: Enabled / Disabled

 

Why would they have changed the default SATA option from 'AHCI' to 'Compatibility Mode'?

 

Ya got me bud.. Maybe it's just the default of the BIOS since it's reflashed. Does it still offer AHcI?

Yeah it still offers AHCI but I noticed the default setting had been changed. Your change log also mentions it:

I really hope they actually gave us new multipliers, but after iamtheanimal's post i guess not. Sadly no BIOS flash for me as i dont need any of the other options

Is someone can confirm new multiplier unlocks i will certainly be doing this update when i get home... but if not oh well i guess being stuck at 3.0 gHz isnt that bad

I was hoping to see how far i could take my x9000 and keep decent temps. With mine undervolted I do so good on temps i kinda wish i could push it to 3.2-3.6 just to see what it looks like. THough i doubt i could get there on the voltages i have now lol

Why not try it and find out. Honestly i doubt it, because its a bit more complicated than just adding more multipliers that are accessable to the XCPU crowd. But heck give it a go and see what happens

 

Please someone go check if it enables BIOS OCing Id do it, but Ive never tried it before.

and Phasio, OC'ing is reserved for Xtreme CPUs.. And, this is a Gateway BIOS, which like all previous, evidentally stops you at 3.0 GHz.

LOL. Im not gettin the Robson, evidentally it isn't compatible just yet. So, they upgraded me to hd4870s.. *shrugs* And no, minesweeper. Solitaire lags when I try dragging and dropping cards.

Does this update mean if I had a extreme CPU that I could lower the voltage on the CPU then raise the multiplier so that the speed is the same?

 

lol, yesterday I browsed the P-7800 series driver section and I noticed these are still listed. Someone should smack Gateway support techs for this. It's funny to provide or dangle a BIOS infront of it customers, but say if you use it we'll void your warranty and then add an almost 100% certainty of it bricking your notebook because its the wrong BIOS.

 

I think so, but lowering the voltage and raising the multiplier could produce unstable results... You'll have to test it.
