Ugh... this is what we're jumping on you for. This is WRONG WRONG WRONG and as long as you continue to make this claim, no one is going to take you seriously.

UNtil we have a true 64 bit operating system thats solid enough to test.. will we know for sure about performance>?

NO apparently you don't know your stuff! cause you still insist that 754 and 939 are different when it comes to 64-bit. And refuse to accept that the difference only lies in the memmory interface speed (SC vs DC).

Anyway if you just want to remain on believing that I am not going to stop you. I was just trying to clarify the issue, MAINLY so that other users and readers of these forums don't get disillusioned with your own personal (and the guys at your local BB) explanation of the difference between a 754 and 939.

And since you are so knowlegable, please define to us ignorant people what the hell does READ 64-bit exactly mean?

Well a p4 6XX series has instructions for 64-bit, but its not a 64 bit processor, i basically has the capabilities of reading a 64 bit program without the performance advantages... at least thats what i understood

The P4 6XX series has what amounts to a half-***ed implementation of 64-bit processing capability. It works, but it's a kludge that's basically been "grafted on" to the core. (Someone else correct me if I'm wrong on this.)

The Athlon 64 series - FROM ITS INCEPTION - was designed for 64-bit computing from the ground up, combined with 100% backwards compatibility and performance. The architectural changes since its release have been largely superficial: 754 to 939 yielded dual-channel memory operation instead of single-channel AND THAT'S ALL (HyperTransport speed increase is, I suspect, because of dual-channel operation), and the newer cores support SSE3. Beyond that, there have only been die shrinks and clock increases.

Either of these, however, are 64-bit processors. If you put a 64-bit operating system on them (WinXP64, for example), they will run in full 64-bit.

I'm through here. This thread was supposed to be about the MX7515 and we've been dragged off topic.

Can anyone of you guys with run 3dmark05 on the Athlon 64 4000+ using the new ATI catalyst 5.10. I ran 3dmark05 on the R4000 with the Athlon 64 4000+ with 2.4 GHz. My scores:
    3dmark05= 751
    cpu score= 4167
That was using the ATI 5.10 drivers.

    Stock 3dMark05 score: 1040
Omega 2.6.71 drivers, no setting changes. 3dMark05 score: 1341

I would guess it would be near the Omega driver score....

What about the cpu score. The 754 socket Athlon 64 has 2.6GHz how does it score in the 3dmark05 cpu score? Make sure you dont have any programs at all running in the background when you run 3dmark05 for the cpu score, it made a big difference for me. I ran 3dmark05 with a few programs in the background and it was around 400-500 lower than when I had all programs closed.

I saw mention in one of the posts that the 7515 will expand to 2GB of RAM. Is this correct?

The Best Buy site states 1.5GB as Max RAM

I had just about thrown it out of contention, because I need 2GB of RAM for Photoshop and Illustrator.

To get back to the omega drivers... I ran them on my hp laptop and had issues running video without jumping through hoops.

Has anyone running the omega drivers had any problems with video?

I've ran the Omega drivers and played DVDs and games with no issues. I didnt try tweaking any settings. I'm running Catalyst drivers now though, performance has been about the same.

    Gateway's site also says 1.5GB:
    http://www.gateway.com/home/products/ret/ret_MX7515.shtml

    Memory
    1024MB DDR (2 x 512MB) SODIMM (PC2700)
    Expandable to 1.5GB

The "slow" RAM of this machine is another Con, probably not enough for what you want to do.

Hey, I took out Catalyst 5.10, Why make the 128MB into a 256MB vid ram, that means its going to share about 192MB of your ram, because it is already 64MB dedicated and 64shafred hypermemory, making it to 256 will slow down your process, and trust me, you dont want to do that haha. Later guys.
