I would start with the Pheonix BIOS editor...only set you back 6K for the proggie, then after that we need to move into hard drive recovery software doe ultra deep scans...maybe another 1500 dollars

from there you need an operating system... i've always liked windows 3.1, but i've heard 3.5 is better.

And man you have to get the complete adobe package.

Then a really good antivirus... well just skip that and go ahead and delete your drives 0 sector.

    :p

Mate, its your computer... do what ever you want to with it. But most of us get it to game and to work. Thats a pretty good place to start

    hahaha lol

Well... I was kinda wondering like what antivirus software was good, etc. I was thinking kapersky but $100 is kinda a lot :p.

And could you recommend something that could monitor temps and so on? I remember using one but I forgot lol .

+1 to ccleaner, and i use JKdefrag. very nice little command line/very basic gui defragging tool and it optimizes the files according to how you want it to. http://www.kessels.com/Jkdefrag/

does anyone know how to increase download speeds? I tried downloading the crysis/UT3 demos and the download speeds were around 20kb/s with a total downloading time between 11 and 23 hours (the internet is REALLY slow)

and what drivers should I use for the laptop?

I'll second the recommendation of Avast antivirus. Great software, and it works with XP Pro x64 edition if anyone else out there besides me is using it :)
