Holy crap that's a nice machine. It's great to see AMD processors in some good gaming-capable laptops. I wish this had been available when I bought my 7422GX. :gateway:
-
exact SAME machine as my 7426GX with updated video. I have a 64mb 9600 Radeon Mobility. Even has the same case with very minor cosmetic changes. How much is it? I paid $1,399 for mine at BestBuy.

Seems like it lists for roughly the same MSRP as the 7426GX: $1549 USD. That's pretty good considering the substantial (probably almost 1000 3DMarks in 3DMark05) upgrade to the GPU.

i agree LowlyMarine, new vidcard boost is awesome.
-
Hopefully gateway will put the mobility x800 into the generation of laptops after the 7510gx.
-
Is there a price on that yet? I wish that was out earlier, I am a pretty serious gamer and I would love to have that x600. However, no matter what notebook you get, it's really odd to find that the slower HDD's actually make a pretty big difference when it comes to gaming even. My 7422gx has the stock 4200 RPM in it and it makes games lag every 10 or 15 seconds. Does anyone know anything about what kind of connection those HDD's have? Like ATA-100 or SATA or any ideas?
-
That's less than what I paid for my 7426GX at Best Buy. Rip off to me and probably lots of others who bought at BB
BTW, is it "7510gX" or "7510gZ?" -
Tell me about it!! That's less than I paid for the 7422gx I got at BestBuy. And it's not even the one that has the 3700+ processor and the 100 Gb Hdd!! Oh well, that's computer's for ya.
I really gotta hand it to Gateway, they are puttin' out some amazing notebooks for the prices they offer. I sold my PC with an ATI 9600 Pro graphics card and bought the 7422gx and have no complaints with the minor downgrade. If anyone is looking to invest in a new notebook, I suggest the newest machine that Gateway is producing... ESPECIALLY GAMERS! -
It's in stores now ..

Hi, I also noticed that HSN is selling a Gateway 7110 GX for $1199. It has an AMD 3400, 80GB hard drive, 1Gb of memory, and ATI 200. 15.4 " screen
Any feedback on this model?? I notice that neither the 7510 or the 7110 are on Gateways website.??? -

I just saw this laptop at Best Buy yesterday and the version they had there had 256MB of video memory on the ATI X600. Do you think this laptop will play Battlefield 2? If so, I am replacing my desktop with it.
Thankz, Take Carez and Laterz,
WarriorOfStorms -
256MB? How did you check the amount? and was the extra 128MB dedicated or allocated in the system memory?
-
My guess is that these computers have hypermemory enabled by default, which dedicates an additional 128MB of system memory, slightly improving performance and giving the illusion of 256MB of VRAM.
Yes, the new 7510GX will run Battlefield 2 extremely well at native resolution and roughly medium graphics. -

Thanks, I appreciate the info...

*edit* if you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll try to answer them the best way I can
*edit #2* I just ran 3DMark05 and got a score of 1547 which is kinda disappointing but it runs games fine -
Hey, I work at a Best Buy and this laptop is sweet. I know my stuff with computers, but just wondering if you guys have an idea on this. We just got this laptop, our info and info from Gateway says it has 128mb X600, however, like some of you have said, if you run DXDIAG it says it has a 256mb graphics card....and if you look at system memory it still shows a full 1GB of RAM to use. So that would be it is a 256mb dedicated in a laptop. Which would be amazing. So maybe their hardware is wrong or just a misprint from Gateway? I contacted our corporate, and they are looking into to find an answer. Just figured I would post here too.....
P.S. here is hoping it is a 256mb and gateway just misprinted! -
Ok i opened up the details on my system inside of 3DMark05. It says
Total Local Video Memory 128 MB
Total Local Texture Memory 128 MB
Total AGP Memory 256 MB
So yeah, lets just say that it has a dedicated 256, it sounds better :gateway: -
-
That is a pretty good score.. I saw a review at notebookforums of a Asus 71v that had a 6600 go in it and the stock 3dmark05 scores were like 1760.. so 200 off of a notebook with a 6600 is pretty sweet...
BTW a little overclocking and the notebook can get a higher score.. don't know if you want to do that though...
-
Updating to the latest Omega Drivers will yield a substantial performance increase, as will a little bit of overclocking. You should be able to safely break 2000, especially if it's a 256MB card.
-
I don't see any reason to complain, that is sweet deal! Tons of features, a really fast CPU, and ATI X600 256MB + DVDRWDL, 100GB HD, 1GB RAM. I really like the looks of it too.
-
-
Ok nevermind, I'm very happy about my 3DMark05 scores. I'll check out the Omega Drivers and see if that helps. I just loaded and ran HL2 today with max settings and HL2 Deathmatch and it runs great. So far this has proven to be a great deal and an awesome laptop so if you're looking into buyin a new laptop definately consider this one.
*edit* alright after installing the newest omega drivers my new 3DMark05 score is 1667 over a 100 point increase just by installing the omega drivers so i'm pretty happy -

What do you get in PCMark04? I think I am going to get a 7510GX, and I just want to see how it stacks up against my current laptop. -
Ok, the 2 hours battery life kinda makes me not like this to much of the 3 semi-gaming laptops i'm looking at. But then again, they don't have amd 3700's in them, they have mobile processors. Anyway, how would the 64mb X700 stack up against this from the acer 42xx (not sure what the xx's are, but its the one with the turon 1.6)
I know the 6800 will blow it away though. -

*edit* it may not be the best score I could've gotten cause I have programs running in the background and maybe some other small factors but it probably wouldn't have been too much higher. -
I bought this lappy from bestbuy---and reformatted right aways cause i obviuosly did not want everything it came with, i installed windows xp and now my problem is i cant get drivers for my hardware from anywhere, talked to bestbuy (they laughed at me) and gateway who says they dont have any info or cds for this model, so anyone of help who could direct me to good links for drivers i will be soooo happy,
-
This new notebook looks really nice: great CPU, quite capable GPU, good amount of RAM! I am seriously considering it as an option (in addition to Acer Ferrari 4000) to go with.
Could anybody please comment on the reliability of Gateway notebooks: I have heard really horrible stories in the past...? -
-
I'm looking at the Gateway 7510gx to purchase in the next week. Have one question, though, is the HDD speed slow on this model? I read somewhere that this is a 4200rpm drive. Can it be upgraded to 54 or 7200?
I'm a software developer, not a gamer, so the video is not as critial to me but system speed is. The AMD64 is perfect for the programming tools I use (Softvelocity's Clarion for Windows... sort of VB like, only better in my opinion). Others using AMD64 systems swear by AMD over Intel for this environment. My need is to be portable, replace an aging... ok, dying Pentium-II with something to be my bread and butter for the next 3-4 years, and not paint myself into a corner with an new snazzy machine that isn't quite what I need. The hard-drive, is the only thing I've seen so far, that could be a problem... Well, I'll need to upgrade to XPpro, but otherwise, Memory, HDD size, Screen size, DVDR/CDRW and the media reader are all GREAT features.
Thanks for your comments
John -
If you really want portability, you may want to look at a different notebook, my 7426GX is around 8 lbs. This isn't a problem for me, for I don't need to take it many places.
-
Ok, so I picked up the 7510gx today and I love it.
One thing to keep in mind is that even if you are going to upgrade to xp pro...RUN THE SYSTEM RESTORE CD OR DVD CREATION SOFTWARE. This computer has too many drivers that xp pro won't recognize...and gateway offers no driver support online for this model as of yet if ever.
Ok, now onto the fun stuff.
Installed BF2 today and ran it on all high settings and it was wonderful. I'm usuing the omega drivers and only have the cpu and ram overclocked by 10mhz each...nothing really too straining on the x600 since it is pretty good at overclocking.
I'll post some benchmarks in the days to come...but I'd like to end by saying that this maching is freaking sweet. I had the Compaq R4000 CTO and had it completely maxed out as far as components go. It didn't even touch BF2 unless everything was on the lowest settings...probably because of the crappy x200m in that piece. Also, it should have ran dual channel since it was running an amd 64 4000+ on the 939 socket...but hp/compaq are bastards and disabled it...which is dumb because a 4000+ without dual channel will run like a 3600+ on the 754 socket...and this gateway has a 3700+ so I'll see an increase in performance there as well -
-
Oh, and one more thing...the x600 is a 256 dedicated card. It's not using the hypermemory thing because if it were system properties would show your ram minus 128. I know because thats how my old laptop did it (compaq r4000). It had an option of using the sideport and uma to get a total of 256 on that piece of crap x200m GPU. The x600 has 256 dedicated...I swear by it...which adds for some pretty sweet graphics i might add.
-
Ok, did the 3dmarks and here are the scores
3dmark03 ------3501
3dmark05------1668
These are the free versions of the programs...so the settings are whatever it defaults as. Pretty dang good scores if you ask me
These are done with the omega drivers and both the CPU and Ram on the x600 increased my 10mhz....nothing too spectacular in terms of overclocking there...but it's a laptop so I don't want to fry the card...or worse yet...my legs
verheat: :gateway:

Ok, Here's another bench mark
SuperPI
PI to 1M took 40s
PI to 2M took 1m 34s
More to come later. -
But one thing I've not been able to find out anywhere is what kind of battery life to expect from this bad boy. Elsewhere I've heard that the AMD 64's (even Mobile) are terrible for battery life. I want a machine that can play games at least half-way decently, but I don't want to be tethered all the time for web browsing etc.
Do you or anyone know if I could expect to get at least two hours out of this machine? I don't mean playing BF2, but playing a DVD or browsing the web?
I think I may pick one of these up today if so
Thanks for any info! -
I think if you set the 7510gx to run at 800MHz which also lowers voltage, heat and fan use, set the PowerPlay V properties (for the GPU) to max battery I don't see why it wouldn't reach 2 hours! I don't have this machine myself so I can not test it out. It would be interesting if someone that has this machine could set the properties as mentioned above to see what kind of result they would get! But I'm sure 2 hours would be no problems. -
HELP WANTED, i NEED DRIVERS FOR 7510gx , if you are wondering if I made a restoration CD I did not, so please is there any way that can send me the drivers, wireless, video, network, audio or post it somewhere ?
I am desperate and frustated I called those pricks from customer support and they told me if I formatted the computer they can not help and they need to charge me 20 to send me some restoration cds for the same OS that I formatted the home edition -
Im still looking for drivers
ive found some by going to individual sites of the hardware manufactures but yes if you get this run recovery disks right away, because there is no support from gateway, the two drivers i have not been able to find yet are the broadcom 802.11g card and audio drivers...abit irritating but im sure i will find something or hopefully get some support sooner or later; but yes a very nice laptop
-
sneaky
Very nice laptop, but I need help, please let me know asap when you get the wireless and ethernet , I need those at least, if you can let me know how could you get the others I will appreciate it
I can not understand why in the world gateway has not uploaded drivers for 7510GX when they are selling it, I think that they want to charge extra for the restoration cds, those pricks -
sneaky
I got them and not from gateway customer service / website,
let me know if you still need them
also, I hope that sooner they will upload the drivers on gateway web site, because I spoke with some technical people at there, customer service, I put my complains, etc and I hpe that it will help all of you, but if not, let me know and I can send them
take care
