Is there going to be a new P series that is going to be sold at bestbuy?
-

I heard with new CPU. T8x00. Probably T8100. Just a rumor tho. Maybe Gateway marketing think differently then rest of world that, if something is sold out everywhere, ie P-6831FX, lets stop making it.

yea.. haha I know they need to put these back out in the stores!! I just cant decide if I want to get one now or wait till june/july to get a laptop.

When Gateway acquired emachines back in 2004, they adapted emachines retail model whereby they would order (from ODMs, of course--Gateway doesn't make anything themselves) the next quarters product in advance.
I figure their sales were higher than they calculated, and they simply ran out.
If Gateway under Acer maintains this business model, then I would expect the next quarter's product to be available within the next week or two. If not, well, throwing away a top selling notebook would clearly be foolish. But dumb things happen all the time. -

Top selling, sure, but we're talking zero and negative margins here.

P-6860FX. T-5550 1.83 - 4GB - 320GB. No other details yet, other than it should be the same retail price as the 6831.

Pretty sure selling them at BB for almost no revenue was just to get the name out in hopes of boosting online sales; those are the models that they really make profit from.

What I posted is coming out in mid-April. It actually had about average margin for a notebook, except when it went to 1699. That was nice.
Little secret, we have next to no margin on all laptops, except Apple. Most in the price range have less than the 6831 did.

Just some FYI.

Now if Gateway can get them shipped out at a decent time, they'd be all set!
What's the cost of the 6831 that Best Buy buys them at? I think the price gun tells you everything, but they don't really leave them laying around...
      -

well do you think I should buy one now before they bump up the price more.. I dont know if that is what yall are saying but I dont want to get the price bumped up again on me.
 -

Cost is slightly less than the non-sale price, though BB gets a kickback from Gateway (sort of a retailer's mail in rebate) for selling them at the sale price, so they make maybe $50 per computer sold. Gateway on the other hand has to eat the loss. Lovely.
And no, cost is not on the Telzons. The reason they're not all over the place is because they cost near $1000 each. -

Hm, strange. I thought it had the cost of them on there, but maybe I was mistaken. I do know that other stores other than Best Buy shows the cost and margin of the product. And if they have access to their inventory system, even the buyer's name is listed on the AS/400 as well as warehouse inventory and status.
True, those RF guns are expensive, sometimes some guys when they're doing their weekly price auditing just lays the guns down... when I used to work retail those people forget where they put it and I finally find it in the overhead!
As for LeeGro, I would probably say wait until Mid-April when they get the P-6860FX. Maybe they'll put the 6831's on clearance or you can probably negotiate a better price perhaps. I myself regret returning the 6831-FX when I got 100 dollars off it.. since I ordered the P-171X FX edition and now have to wait until April 24... about a month from now... -

Where did you get this info from? Any idea if the new model will be retailing at Canadian Best Buys as well?

I work for BB, and unfortunatly I have no idea if Canada will get it or not. I hope so, because ya'll need it too.

I was all set to get an Asus M50-SV, now I stumble upon this. Seems that the Asus has a better CPU but a lesser GPU. The obvious 15.4 vs 17 as well but that is minor to me.
So do you guys think I should hold out until the new FX comes to my local Best Buy or just get the M50-SV now????
Seems they will both be at the same price point, while I do most of my gaming on consoles I want a lappy that I can play games on as well. -

Personally, I dont think the replacement FX in BB will be priced any lower than the current $1250 offer. Also it might be a little beefed up in the CPU department but I think the $1250 offer right now is just too good to pass up.

Gotcha. I guess my problem is this, up until I stumbled onto the FX series I was planing on getting an Asus M50 which comes with the T9300 and 9500M GS GPU. The cost for the Asus is right around $1,400, so even if the new FX from Best Buy is more than the current $1250 as long as it stays in the $1500 range dollar wise I could go either way. I am just wondering which would be a better machine. I realize you could add a T9300 to the FX series but I really don't plan on doing any upgrades to the machine, until it becomes necessary.

Just a follow-up to the person asking for BBY's cost on the 6831FX... Our system (I work for best buy as well) says it's about $1,220 per unit. That's as of a month ago...Haven't checked it recently. (I know my supervisors log-in to get advanced pricing details in RSS
(directed to the other best buy employees here who know what i'm talking about

))

So this is just a P-6831FX with an upgraded CPU and a larger size hard drive?
Are you sure the price will be the same as the current P6831FX? That doesn't make sense to me. How could they sell something with more expensive parts for the same price? -

1349.99 in our system already, and cost on those parts drop over time...

Also, it should have Vista 64 already on it. -

so its worth the $100 more or not really since you can upgrade later on anyways..
 -

if you can get any info at all, us canucks would really appreciate it. Were tired of getting stiffed out on these
      -

could always go down the border and get one..Thats what im planning to do.. Or theres always ebay..
 -

What about the P-171S FX? It's exactly the same as the P-6831 FX, except the price is $1599 and it comes with the T7250 (2.00GHz, 800MHz FSB).
 -

You also get slot drive DVD and fingerprint reader I think.
