I am looking at getting a new processor and am stuck between the T9600 (Mac branded Intel OEM) for $230 or the X9100 for $320.

Is the extra 0.2GHZ worth the $100 or should I just be satisfied with the T9600 and call it a day.

I'd go with the T9600 normally but that's a hello of a deal for the X9100- so you should pick that.

WAIT! Does Gateway's BIOS give you the option to OC the Core 2 Extreme processors? If not, go with the T9600.

no you cant change the multiplier on these laptops but even then i would still go with the x9100 only because i like to have the most power i possibly can get from the laptop as itll last me longer. that and the ps2 and gamecube emulators i use do benefit greatly from the extra ghz.

I would go with the T9600. Only difference I see is the clockspeed, and it will put out less heat than the x9100. In most games, .2GHz isn't that big a difference. Then again, if all you play is GTAIV, Morrowind, TF2, and a bunch of RTSs, then yeah, go for the x9100. I'm assuming you play games, as most people with this laptop do.

Are you kidding? I would definetly go for the T9600. The X9100 has a high voltage and can cause higher temps and problems with the power adapter. Besides you won't be able to take advantage of the overclocking part either since the Gateway has a locked 3.0 ghz as it's max. T9600 wins it.

Thank you I think I will indeed go with the T9600. Seems overkill to pay over $100 more for 0.2ghz and I already play TF2, L4D2 and Battlefield with the current processor at 1600x1200 maxed out and getting great FPS, just want a faster processor and like some point out, the X9100 does run a lot hotter and consume more power. Thx!

my x9100 doesnt run hotter then my p8400 did at load.(i do have mine undervolted though) on idle its a little warmer. i havent had any issues running my setup on the power adapter that comes with the gateway at all i just make sure it can breath and itll be fine.

but like i said if your concern is money then of course by all means the 9600. i assume your buying it from ebay? if so the best i could find on there was the t9600 at 229 with free shipping and for the x9100 i found for 274 free shipping.
