I was thinking of going for 1200p (as i know the screens are not 1080p) screen for gateway.

is there any recommendation what to do and since the screen is somethings looks a bit dim has anyone found a solution to change the backlit or its not worth.

That will depend alot of what kinda laptop you have and the connectors on the backside of the screen you need to make sure it fits your connectors as well. Otherwise look at the gateway site and they should tell you what options of screen came with your laptop that you can go onto a ebay like site and or 3rd party site and order a replacement that has a higher resolution but that matches the part number for the higher resolution screen from gateway to replace your current screen. And dimming to me sounds like a sign the screen is or possible reaching its end of life span but without more info or screen during usage makes it hard to know exactly what you mean dimming screen cause laptops to dimm to save on battery or when it goes to idle after no usage. Nah I researched a bit and found that unless you have a clean room dust free your inviting dust to get behind the screen and the screen protector which would lead to more problem then you need.

Where you able to take your lcd screen and look at its model number and see if their model matches your? That what I would do if you can do that then at least that will give you some idea if those replacements they are selling matches your model number? But also check if you have the same amount of data connectors to the ones they are selling as well. I am always hesitant when replacing a lcd with a new one especially if it doesn't match you have to make sure you can return it to get the correct one as well.

you have to look for an used NX860(XL) LCD at ebay. I've got NX860XL with 1920x1200 and I think p6860 uses 30 pin lcd connector as well.

    What a pessimist! You're WRONG.

LCD screens are standardized. You just need to use ANY CCFL backlit 17" LCD.

I will sell one and guarantee its compatible. Its 1920x1200.

Also, inverters generally have a shorter life span than CCFLs, so if its just a dimming problem, you should replace the inverter first.

Try laptopscreen.com. They're located in Canada (Vancouver) but much cheaper than the Chinese sellers on ebay. I just bought a matte 1920x1200 to upgrade my P7805u-FX and got it delivered to Toronto within 2 days.
