Creative has info on this one: http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=209&subcategory=669&product=16642

Probably still a software-slaved P.O.S. like the first one. Not to mention that *GIANT* protrusion.
-
not the same card, if you look at the link I posted, it is black, and appears smaller
-
i heard they were releasing new stuff, this might be the new one. i dont know though, they dont show anything on the site about it, so it might be a phony scam. i wouldnt take my word for it though, i havent looked into them much.

This pic looks to me like it is made in 3D and not in real life.
NO DOCKING STATION JUST 2.1!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Well, we can't see the underside. For all we know there's a larger port underneath that thing that accepts a 7.1 cable like the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook had.

Ok... how about a link from Creative's website???
Scroll down...

Well, that's nice of them. "Here's something to enhance the functionality of your card that we should've included in the first place."
Typical Creative.
If these weren't so god****ed expensive... http://www.magma.com/products/pciexpress/expressbox1/index.html -
What's happening with Creative.
No info for the new card?
Whats new in this card? -
If you had that, you could keep upgrading your graphics to a tremendous degree and make them last (if they aren't falling apart already) many more years. Very cool idea. Too much for just one card slot, though. -
There already is a working mechanic for External PCI Express up to 1.0 x16 speeds. The standard was ratified back in 2007, cable schematics and all. No one is implementing it because it'd be...survey says... too expensive.
Oh yeah, and because we're at PCIe 2.0 now. -_-
The PCIe enclosures will only house cards that take a maximum of 55W of juice, though, and the PCIe Xonars require a Molex connector, which would make them incapable of being used. It also goes without saying that any graphics card of any worth is going to require well more than 55W as well. -
Creative is miss advertising those X-fi express cards, for they don't have the X-fi chip. The X-fi xtreme audio uses a chip from the Audigy 4 (EAX 4.0). At least it does not use the desktop xtreme audio's chip, for it is a rebadged audigy SE (EAX 3.0)
-
They're not technically misadvertising anything since the X-Fi is their trademark and they can do what they like with it.
Until (or if) ASUS decides to make an ExpressCard version of the Xonar with its "cheating" mode to support higher levels of EAX than 2.0, the EC cards are all that's there. The only thing I think this is is a EC34 version designed to capitalize on the netbook craze, not some upgrade of the first version. Right now, I still stand by the Xonar U1 - the 64-bit OS support of it is unmatched compared to Creative's dodgy drivers. -
I just bit the bullet and got a Audigy 2 ZS with a pcmcia to express card adaptor. Sure it sticks out half a mile but it least I get hardware EAX :\
Creative have really shown their complete contempt for consumers in the last few years IMO - especially in the last 12 months with the whole Audigy support under Vista issue. -
Which adapter did you buy, and from where?
It's sort of a moot point, since I wouldn't trust Creative to be good stewards of the A2ZS Notebook for Vista64. -
This: http://www.roalan.com/expresscard_to_pcmcia_cardbus.htm
Was the only one I could find which wasn't being resold from these guys at a huge markup.
Works a treat and is all implement in hardware transparently so no drivers needed.
I don't have any affiliation with that crowd - they were just one of the few people I could find selling the things and happened to be the cheapest. -
Frak - be VERY careful with the July 2008 Audigy2 ZS drivers on Creative's website. Installing them effectively "bricked" my card, which wouldn't even work after I rolled back to the 2006 OpenAL betas.
Of course, upon trying to reinstall and clean out the Creative drivers I also found the plastic housing around the top had cracked and wouldn't re-mate with the rest of the assembly. Oh well. =/ -
Thanks for the word of warning Destru. Have you tried it in another notebook to see if it damaged the actual card? The july ones definitely don't support the Audigy series. I suggest looking here for more info if this helps:

The new info page on creative is out:

So I think its the same as the silver one, but this new black one supports wireless streaming. But the Xfi wireless reciever will put you back an aditonal $100... http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=209&subcategory=668&product=16538 -
I still think the EC34 formfactor is merely so it'll be sellable to netbook users. Same product (except for one feature), new and solid MSRP.
-
the black x-fi seems to only support "24-bit, 48kHz" while the ugly white one supports "24-bit, 96kHz" only difference other than 5.1/731 output
-
looks awesome..kinda of mad i bought the usb one
