The P-Series FX Edition is also available to customers who want to shop retail. The Gateway P-6860FX comes with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit Edition with SP1 and will be available beginning this weekend at Best Buy with a manufacturers suggested retail price of $1,349.99. It comes with NVIDIA® GeForce 8800M GTS 512MB GDDR3, an Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 processor, 3072MB of DDR2 SDRAM and a 250GB(1) 5400RPM SATA hard drive. This system also comes with a multi-format dual layer DVD-R/RW/DVD-RAM drive with LabelFlash technology(2) for burning images and text onto a DVD or CD.
Strange that the Bestbuy doesnt get the 4gigs of ram nor the 320gig HD but gets a 64 bit OS. hopefully it does get the new stuff and its just a typo but if its coming straight from the horses mouth then i doubt it .
-
-
I would think it's a typo, it's EXACTLY the same laptop otherwhise, just with the 64-bit OS
They had the labelflash before
Model: P-6831FX SKU: 8651167
Intel® Core™2 Duo mobile processor T5450; 3GB DDR2 memory; DL DVD±RW/CD-RW drive; Labelflash technology; 17" widescreen; 250GB hard drive; built-in Web cam; Windows Vista Home Premium
(bestbuy.com search: Gateway)
Why would they DISCONTINUE the model otherwhise, if there would only be a change in software?
Hopefully just a bad Copy&Paste done by the Source.... -
*slowly takes out the credit card*
-is the date final and confirmed or just a bunch of BS?
-as for the upgrades: they should be there because then there really isnt anything new except a 64 bit OS that everyones having problems with anyway.. -
if that's true, i'm going for the P6831 model. An extra 100$ to switch the vista 32 bit to 64 bit? that's just crazy...

That info is incorrect. It is 4GB and 320, not 3 and 250. That is from internal BBY info.
-
ya i kinda figured it was because of the info you posted a while back . Are there really going to be available this weekend though? alot of the stores around me are still showing the 6831s instock .
-
-
Hopefully this info is wrong. I was holding off on buying because I was hoping there would be a processor upgrade and a 7200 rpm HDD. Even if the original post is wrong, and it has 4 gigs RAM and 320GB HDD, I don't think it's worth it. As it stands now, 3 gigs of RAM is plenty and I've got a 500GB external HDD, so I don't really have to worry about space. Plus, I am very unsure about 64-bit Vista. I play a lot of games, and I don't want to have to deal with compatibility issues.
-
i'd rather buy a copy of Vista 32 bit and reinstall it on there.
-
-
can we get a link to the site that says the 6860 will have 320GB 7200rpm and 4GB ram? just wanna make sure
-
There isnt a link for that info. the guy confirming it works for best buy and he looks it up at work on the computer , so we shall just have to wait for sunday or next week to see if anything changes
-
yeah, i guess waiting is all we can do for now
-
another link which says the same thing with the first one.

this is not looking good.
for folks who concern about safety issues. i'll just quote here
"First up, Gateway is extending its newly-introduced FX line to a new 15.4-inch notebook, the M-6850FX. Smaller than the earlier P-series FX notebook, the M-6850FX features an Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 CPU, 3 GB of RAM, an ATI Radeon HD 2600 graphics controller, and a dual-layer DVD burner with LabelFlash technology. Expect to see it at Best Buy at a suggested price of $999.99.
For folks who can't life without the 17-inch screen, Gateway is also rolling out the P-172X FX Edition, with an Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 CPU, Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS graphics (with 512 MB of video memory) driving a 1,920 by 1,200-pixel display. The P172X will also feature two 160 GB hard drives (RAID 0), a slot-loading DVD burner, integrated Webcam, 802.11n Wi-Fi wireless networking. The P-172X FX Edition will be available from Gateway for $1,999.99.
Best Buy will also carry the P-6860FX for $1,349.99; it will feature an Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 CPU, 3 GB of RAM, Nvidia GeForce 8800M GTS graphics, a dual-layer DVD burner, and a 250 GB hard drive.
Aside from new additions to its FX line, gateway is also offering new models in its M-series and T-series lineups, with selected models featuring an HDMI port for connecting to a large screen display. The new M- and T-series systems feature a range of AMD Turion and Intel processors, with the M-series carrying a 15.4-inch display and the T-series boasting a 14.1-inch screen. The new M- and T-series units will be available through leading retailers at starting prices well under $1,000.
Gateway has also introduced its C-142XL Convertible Notebook PC, with a Core 2 Duo T8300 processor, ATI RAdeon X2300 HD graphics, 3 GB of RAM, and a 250 GB hard drive; the pen-based tablet PC will be available in May at a starting price of $1,299.99. " -
If the new fx's ship with 64bit vista, I'll trade my 32bit Gateway Sytem disk with someone
-
I was in the Best Buy in Reynoldsburg, Ohio this evening. I was hoping to see a 6831 in person, but they didn't have a display model. Anyway, while I was looking around, I noticed a price tag/card for the 6860 on one of the shelves. I wish I had taken a picture of it with my phone, but I didn't think of it at the time. The system specs I remember were: T5550, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD. I think it also said Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit, but that could have been another system close by.
-
hmm im considering one of these myself.. but how does the 8800gts compare to the 8800gtx?? i have a freind at best buy and can get one of these for less than the 1250$$ and it will cost me 760$ (w / shipping ) just to upgrade my sager to the 8800gtx... i mean i can basically buy a whole new system for just over that price.. not sure if its worth it to spend 760 on just the gpu... ??
-
The 8800GTS is very comparable to the 8800gtx . if you check around some of the other threads youll see the performance is nothing to sneeze at and for the $$ there is absolutely nothing that comes close to this machine. The GTX is faster but not by the margin you would think.
-
-
I have a sheet with ALL of the info for the 6860FX from Best Buy, I'll take a pic tonight and post it. It also has a picture of the laptop. It looks identical to the 6860.
-
-
i wanna see that sheet too, thx !
-
i can spend 760 for the 8800gtx and keep my t7500 setup
spend 899 + about 80 in shipping and ship mine to them for a mobo swap thern spend another 350 or more on a new cpu??
or buy one of these.. at about 200-300 off the price and sell my clevo/sager system..
im mainly torn because im kinda fed up with the constant mobo swaps clevo forces you into to upgrade.. imo it sucks while everyone else was able to go to penryn like toshiba and gateway im stuck with my t7500.. arghhhhh -
oh well i guess im out.. i want at least a wsxga didnt realize this was a wxga at first. .. sucks imo i was really liking this machine.. im looking at their web site but the next model imo is a bit overpriced when compared to this one..
-
-
lol wow, i didn't know the screen could be possibly replaced. someone care to do the explanation?
-
depends on the cost of the upgrade whether thats worth it or not imo.. these screens are not cheap and im sure i could prob just go with the higher model for that matter.. no doubt for the money its a heck of a machine but id def pay a bit more for the wsxga.. but not 2000$ from 1250... (actually less since i can get a decent discount at best buy..) if the upgrade is pretty cheap i might just go grab one to play around with.. its a very nice all around system

-
i was hoping for wsxga but still a heck of a deal..
-
Thx for the info!
btw, the gateway site says 6831 weights 9.2 lbs but bestbuy says it's 8.2 lbs lol weird. does it mean the 6860's gonna be lighter as well? -
Wonderful
Thank You -
-
Kinda weard? I bet it does have raid support, you know how Gateway is, they dont support anything outside of the basic.
-
I was right, it says the P-6831 fx has no raid either, yet my P-6831 fx is in raid0
-
hmmm so about 2k for this with the wsxga (me add one later) and the x9000 again ill add on later.. man tempting
-
Does anybody know the release date for canada? wanna have this baby!
-
-
they HAD it, yes, but i "missed" it, since some guy from BB tole me 1 week before it came that it would not get to canada, and when i found out that it IS here, it was sold out :-/ I am working on getting a gateway labtop at the moment, and i could walk an expensive route with relatives in the usa and them shipping it over here, but my euros are worth more in canadian dollars at the moment ;-)
-
if they had it, i don't see why they wouldn't sell the 6860 model. and in the worst case, you could always cross the border. it would be somewhat tough, but won't be as tough as the US southern border lol
-
-
well, you could always call them up and ask
-
-
gave u some rep for that link flynnaz! its really tempting to get one of this babies! is there a huge difference between the wsxga ad wxga??gamewise??
edit: i guess its still possible to swap out the t5550 with T9300 on the 6860 -
-
I was just at Best Buy today, and looked in the Best Buy Book that my buddy that works there has, and the P-6860 will have Vista 64bit, 4gb ram, ect...
-
I take it there was nothing about the release date?
-
what about the CPU flynnaz?
-
Not sure on release date, the cpu is the T5550, I think the CPU runs at 1.8ghz
