I am trying to fix a T-6815 Gateway lappy for a friend.

His girlfriend put a password on the BIOS...So I removed the CMOS battery and was able to get it to boot by hitting F8 and selecting "Directory Services Restore Mode"...It will not boot selecting "Safe Mode"

Under My Computer it list Local Drive (C :) 118 GB free of 138 GB and RECOVERY (D :) 4.36 GB of 10.7 GB...I changed the View in Tools to allow me to see hidden and program files...Seems everything is there.

Only problem is there is not Gateway Restore in the program files.

I have looked on Gateways site and connot find a Restore Program file download.

He has a Upgrade Anytime disk that came with the computer but after entering the disk sku number it will not allow me to load Vista again.

    Any ideas ???

I would really appreciate any help as my only option right now is to load an OEM version of XP Proffesional and there are no webcam drivers availble from Gateway for XP.

Thanks for any links, feedback or replys.

I have used this software a couple times. I installed W7 7000 and didnt know that I was suppose to create the restore disks. I have used MBRtool to recover from gateways hidden recovery partition. I got it from UBCD. Hope this helps.

Well I was finally able to get it to boot into Vista without doing the "Directory Services Restore Mode" thing.

Still no Gateway Recovery in the programs folder...Nothing Gateway on the entire computer.

I am assuming that the "Upgrade Anytime" disk is not from Gateway...Guess I will surf around Gateway's site and look for a download to try and burn the recovery disk.

Seems I read a thread about doing it from the CMD prompt.

Thanks for the reply sparkyman !!!!!
