To all Gateway lovers
AnandTech have done a review on " gaming laptops"
in it it mentioned that the P-7811 FX had crashed several times and due to this the Sager Np9262 won the competition
Until .................
they updated the graphics drivers to the hacked 177.92 Vista 64-bit drivers at LaptopVideo2Go.com:
http://laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=20271
and after this, they said the following:
"P-7811 FX, this is definitely the gaming laptop I would recommend for most people."

So I guess we should install those drivers then? =X

wow this rocks! hopefully this also fixes issues with heat.

Good find on that review and update. Anandtech gives much more in depth detail than most other pulications reviews I've read. It reiterates what I think most of us in the Gateway forum know. The Gateway FX series is the best gaming laptop for price conscious people.

I had actually already posted this in the Official 7811 thread...

Yeah but a driver like this deserves it's own thread!

I concur with their findings...
I am using the L2G 177.92's under XP x86 and Vista x64 and they work great. -

Good to see someone has tested it as working...

Unfortunately the lockup issue isnt just the drivers, at least not for everybody. My second P-7811 was locking up using three different drivers including the ones they mentioned. Even after a clean os install.

So I still have the factory driver.. should I update to this one?
 -

yes, because anandtech tested it and it solved the lock up problems.

The only thing I can say is replace it again. With a number of people here who have 7811's with no issues, there have to be good ones out there.
Sorry if I haven't noticed, but do you have any issues? If so, yes by all means update the driver. If you don't have any issues, I would leave it alone. Of course, newer drivers often have better performance, so you have to take that into consideration as well. -

Well I've had mine for 4 days now and I have 0 lockups so far.

I've been using the stock 175 driver without any lockups or issues thus far.

The lockups are probably application dependent based on what the GPU is doing. It's my guess that future driver updates will see less and less of them.
