I called Gateway regarding the P-6831FX and the P-171S FX and 2 places in Florida and North Dakota said they don't have any. Now retail stores is not an option for me because I'm in Canada (Ontario) and neither Best buy, futureshop nor Costco have any P series gateway laptops. Where can I buy one? Should I just way until they get more or is there some place I can buy them?
Thanks!

get an alienware area-51 m9750
www.alienware.com -
At first glance the alienware m9750 looks like a comparable lappy for the price but once you get into the customization and get it configured like the P-6831 FX it comes out to almost $2000!!!! You could go for the P-171S FX or X FX for that amount of money! Nooooo spank you.

They are discontinued, you can probably buy it off the bestbuy.com website, however, I don't know if they'll charge you alot for shipping it there.
I asked a few Bestbuy people including their dotcom people, and they said that the P-6831 will be available to buy until Saturday (supposedly). -
Yes I checked the availability of the P 6831FX and all of the BB's in my local area are completely out of stock. But I already purchased mine back in January. It seems though that if you have not already bought this laptop that you might want to look for another comparable model.

Thanks guys can you suggest any comparable models with a 8800 GTS/GTX. That is my main thing. As Narc mentioned I don't want to spend too much (2000+) on the system. Maybe there is an upcoming laptop with an 8800 you can recommend. Thanks!
-
That's the thing, there don't really seem to be any comparable models for less than $2000, Unless you count the ones that drop the 8800. The closest thing seems to be the Sager NP5793, and it is over $2200 adding only the 8800 to the base config.

I agree with narsnail the Sagers are your best bet good solid machines, I'd stay away from an Alienwares, just check out the Alienware section to see the nightmare going on there, yikes!! Gateways site shows the P-171s for sale, ships march 21st.

Unbelievable! If Acer/Gateway can't get the the supply chain rolling a whole pile of clients are going to look elsewhere. Then again why do we need the Gateway name? I think the OEM is Acer, so be it.

I don't know why Gateway is discontinuing their Best Buy model, unless they're going to update it with an "171FX" version. Especially when there are still customers who are willing and able to buy these laptops...
Isn't Gateway "losing" money to people where they can't find the supply so they try to go to competitors even though those laptops GPU may not be as good as the other laptops? How are they going to make money if they stop supplying?
Supposedly it is the last day for people who wants to buy this laptop from Best Buy, I guess we'll see if Gateway replaces the laptop on their website for something else, or if they'll just have only two laptops to sell in the Best Buy stores now.
I really think they dropped the ball on supply chain management and manufacturing their first FX laptops. If they want to get into the gaming industry, they're going to have to go a little bit faster than this - especially when technology keeps improving at a fast rate - they might as well just stop manufacturing the current FXs and start trying to get bids to get the new montevista and the refreshed lower TDP penryns at this rate! -
every store near me in michigan 48326 thats close to me has them in stock but when i was trying to find mine it took me days and only one store finally had them in stock go figure .
-
No stores around the New Jersey 07046 area has them in stock. When I bought mine during the President's Day sale, everyone had them in stock.
-
Nothing available in Sacramento/bay area as well. My BB sold the display unit 2 days ago. Chico,CA has 3 units still in stock but I struck a deal with Gateway for $1500 shipped so going to order mine thru them.

ya if i had been a little more patient i would have ordered thru the website . i would have loved to have a slot loading dvd drive and the faster CPU and i know its an easy swap for the cpu but a 2ghz cpu for now would have been fine until we see if the quads might work in it and if not waited till the penryns dropped even further in price .
No P-series gateway laptops available?
