Hey everyone,
I'm having trouble getting sound in XP Pro x64 with my P-7805u. In the beginning, I couldn't get the card to accept any of the drivers that were recommended to me. I found a recommendation about uninstalling the device first, and then trying to reinstall the driver that way.
However, now the device simply wont show, even after trying to scan for new hardware. Can anyone help me out with getting the device to show again, and getting the right drivers to work for it so I can get sound? Thanks!

I know a member named "Big Mike" (without the quotes) knows the answer to this, you can PM him or wait for him to come here, he'll help you

Lol, and here I am.
I can't make any guarantees as XP 64 is a bit of a different animal, but assuming you can get a conextant 212 driver that will work in it you should still be able to pull it off. I actually just gleaned all my info from the 7811FX threads about XP.
Basically what you need to do is start by going into device manager, system devices and see if you have Microsoft UAA high definition audio bus. If you do, uninstall that, once you do that's when you get several new unknown devices that you can manually install drivers for. After you do all that you need to get MS's DEVCON program to manually disable it every time windows starts so that the correct audio devices will be recognized again. I'll return momentarily with links to the pertinent info.
This is rumored to be a working Conexant 221 x64 driver:

The 7811 thread:

And Rancid's audio fix using devcon:

You might have to custom hax0r the INF for that driver I posted, or use the driver rancid fixed up from the 7811fx thread. If you need help with that I can probably change the INF for you.
And in case you need any other drivers peep Ashura's thread it has a pretty comprehensive list for the 7811 which uses basically all the same parts:

Hm, maybe it's just me but I haven't been able to get any of the sound going. I tried for a couple of hours and just gave up. I was using the "Have Disk" method of trying to get the correct drivers installed.
The closest I could get to getting the drivers to be accepted by the sound card is by disabling all of the sound devices and ONLY using the Have Disk method on the sound card and not the other ones. In this case, although Device Manager reported the sound card to be working correctly, I had no sound. :| I guess I will have to wait until someone comes out with better drivers specifically for this computer.
Big Mike, you mentioned probably modifying the INF file for my computer? If you could do that, that would be great. I tried modifying it myself, although I only got as far as getting that one device to install, as I mentioned above. -
If you could install it i would like to know how, i have the same problem on windows XP x64. I cant PM rancid so i dont know how to fix this.
Thanks

Don't know if anyone still needs help with this, but I believe I have found a driver that works here...
I bought my 7805u some weeks ago and installed xp x64, found all drivers but the audio. I don't know crap about what I'm doing but I have sound working... I don't mind learning as I go.
I apologize if any of this is out of order or really vague, tried so many diff things I can't remember whats what.
I tried following a bunch of suggested fixes used for 32 bit xp but without any luck. I forget where I found it, but someone was using HP drivers for xp32. Anyway, long story short the SP35271 driver works. I think I downloaded it on accident and tried it anyway.
Link to download followed by another link that also describes using this driver (for a hp comp):
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35001-35500/sp35271.exe
http://www.carlosandrade.es/blog/2008/11/25/conexant-high-definition-audio-for-windows-xp-pro-x64/
It installs here: c:\swsetup\SP35271
Using the "have disk" method point to the .inf then disable and re-enable the UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio and "Conexant High Definition Audio-Venice 5045" shows up under sound controllers and you've got sound.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that two show up, one has the little "!" symbol over the sound symbol. No idea what that means.
My question is how do you get it going again after reboot without being able to use devcon? I have to reinstall it everytime. -
anyone know of a program like, or a version of, devcon for xp x64?

You should only have to install the driver once. You may have to check the "Don't prompt me to install this again" box in the hardware installation wizard. I use devcon on xp x86, I don't have it on startup, but when I want sound I simply click the file and then I have sound until I shut down.
Did you try the ia64\Devcon.exe from the microsoft download page? I figured that's the 64-bit version..
I'm pretty sure I deleted that folder on my p7801u since I'm using the i386\Devcon.exe
(When you run the Devcon extractor it gives you 2 folders: i386 and ia64, each have a Devcon.exe and there is also a EULA.txt included) -
Here's my post explaining what I did to get the audio and the cam mic working on my 7811, but that's with a 32-bit install of Windows. Worth a shot regardless.
