    Guys,

I have decided to take it upon myself to understand Overclocking CPU's and GPU's. Can anyone recommend a good site that can help me understand it on how it works, how to do it, and what software to use.

I have a Gateway P7815u, and I checked my BIOS and there are no option to even try to edit my CPU, or memory. So I'm guessing that i have to install a custom BIOS.

    Any help would do.

    Thanks,

    -J-

The P78xx series has no options by default for OC'ng the CPU or GPU. For the GPU nVidia power tools works great right out of the box. Easy overclocking.

For the CPU you could mod to get SetFSB to work but an easier option is to install a x9100 and use Throttle Stop. Too OC the ram you would agaim need to perform a mod to use SetFSB.

Ram speed has not proven to be a huge bottleneck so personally the x9100 to me is a better option and the one I've opted for............

Overclocking is really hard without an extreme processor. I bought an X9100 and it was worth EVERY penny. It does make the laptop run more hot so make sure you have proper ventaliation for cooling.

Dont bother overclocking the video card, because the stock CPU bottlenecks it as is. If you want to be cheap I think you can get a P series CPU (2.53ghz) for pretty cheap and it would boost performance quite a bit, then overclocking the video card would make more of a difference.

I was able to get my X9100 for $222 shipped off ebay, 3.06ghz stock with 6mb l3 cache. i overclocked it to 3.4ghz for benchmarks but my gaming needs never needed the system overclocked to run smooth.
