What are some tweaks for enabling connection at higher than 54 Mbps?
I am currently on the original Belkin Pre-N and have adjusted everything on the router and AGN 5100 I can find.
Just wondering if anyone has found solutions?![]()
PS: Here is a wifi scanner that seems to work well with Vista 64 http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider

I saw something about enhancing the range on this wifi card, but don't remember where or the tweak. If some one knows any tweaks for this card, please do post. I also saw that this card only has 2 antennas, what is the deal with that?

Can't find any way to set N only on Belkin Router.
Top setting is on auto.
-
Weard, maybe its not a true N router, it say "pre" N

So I am curious, I use a Dlink DIR-655 wireless router with the 7805u. Vista says I connect at 150Mbps but the Dlink at the same time says 270Mbps and sometimes higher. Which one is correct. I have no way of testing this as the other wireless computers are G.

@Syngensmyth
Did you turn on Thouroughput Enhancement too? -

Took me a bit longer to get this done than what I thought. Fedex, UPS and DHL all showed up at the same time a few minutes ago. Thought it might rip a hole in the time space continuum.
Here is the scanner ss.

Wow, now Wilson has 3 numbers for the same thing.
-
It looks like at lest your channel is different than others around you, thats one good thing.
-
That scanner appears to not read above 54Mbps. I looked through the *FAQ's* and forums but could not find anything concrete but there are no screenies showing higher than 54Mbps and I did see that someone else asked but was unanswered.

I tried the Netgear 655 also, but I never got above 130Mb/sec on my P6860-FX.
You may want to look at the Linksys WRT610N. It is a simultaneous Dual-frequency router that works on both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz at the same time. Great for dedicated N users but still supports older connections at 2.4 for B and G users on the same network. I'm getting a reliable 270Mb/sec, and I believe I heard that you can go faster if you use the newest Intel wifi board (5300?). It's been rock-solid for me (the Belkin used to have to be reset every couple of days). -
The Belkin worked well with the Belkin PC card, probably is not compatible with others.
Oh well, I have no wired network at this location so no biggie. -
I have the 7811 FX as well. According to an intel KB, you have to use WPA2 with AES in order to use wireless N. This is an Intel only limitation on their N chipset. As soon as i changed my router to the said security I began holding a 150mb connection. 300 Is impossible on this intel chip as well unless you have a router with a 5ghz capable radio, yet another intel specific limitation. They do this to prevent interference with legacy devices.

Thanks though, it may help someone with WPA2 availability.
-
The reason I am guessing you cannot get over 150 mbps on the 5100agn is the fact that is only supports 150mbps tx but for some reason 300mbps rx at least thats what intel specs show.
-
I also have a DIR-655 and get only a 150Mb connection. My desktop with a DWA-556 adapter gets a 300mb connection. I was thinking of upgrading to the 5300 with a third antenna to get 300Mb but if then Intel chipset is limited to 150Mb then I won't bother. Don't plan on dropping any money on a new router that supports 5.4Ghz anytime soon. The dual band DIR-855 would be nice, but damb it isn't cheap.
I'm pretty sure I saw other posts where someone was going to upgrade to the 5300 but I didn't see the results anywhere from the upgrade. -

This is explains a lot for me
Thanks guys.

Hi,
Newbie to this forum. I just got the 7805u this month. Love it. I was like everyone else getting 150 Mb with the wifi5100. (D-Link 655) Just got done changing it out for the Wifi 5300, added the 3RD antenna and am now getting between 270-300 MB speed. I am able to notice a differnce but, I also have Roadrunner Turbo service. It's not too bad adding the 3RD antenna wire, actually saw a post on here about taking apart the Brezel on the LCD. Pretty much followed that. Oh, my reception has increased 30-40% distance wise. Now I can wander around the house pretty much without constantly finding dead spots.Next, I think I'll try the bluetooth, saw one on ebay this morning and ordered it. I do think the 5300 is a good upgrade for this laptop. -
I have a P-7811 FX and a Cisco Linksys WRT610N and I cannot get any connections speeds above 65Mb. Anyone have any better luck using the Linksys product??
I tried all the settings outlined in the thread.

Double check the frequency on the router and make sure it's not locked to 20 Hz (not sure if it was mega or kilo
)
-
Also, make certain you are using WPA or WPA2 and that you are exclusively "N", no B or G. Apparently, Intel has locked this chipset down so that you have to use high-security settings before you get the higher-bandwidth access.
This is all from memory as I can't seem to find the relevant posts from a couple of weeks ago...
FYI... I'm currently getting 270Mb/sec on my 610 -
I will try this tonight. I will lock it to 20, I think it is set to automatic. I am getting 65MB when the laptop is basically right beside the WRT610N.
I would be happy with 270Mb
