Anyone try using ReadyBoost with a SD card on this? It worked for a little while but then I started to get the blue screen of death. At first I thought it was my video drivers but when I took out the SD card it hasn't crashed on me since.
My SD card is this Sandisk 8gb Extreeme III
I changed my video driver back to 7.5.0011.7615.
Of course I'd like my laptop to run faster (even though its plenty good now) and was wondering if updating the video driver or using ready boost really helps?
The only games I play on it are RTS (COH, CnC, Supreme Commander, etc) but will play more intense games in the future. -

I haven't tried Readyboost or anything so I can't help with that problem.
But updating the drivers increased my performance about 5FPS on average, I'm running the latest Dox's. -

I just purchased this laptop $1149.99 at Best Buy..
I've been reading up and people say that this laptop was supposed to come with the 1900 Resolution?
Mines at 1440... did I get ripped off?
Is there anything else I should know about? -

The first few batches has 1920x1200resolution screens.
Why, we don't know for sure.
We're assuming Gateway screwed up on the first batches, or they had to get rid of some screens and put them on the first of these machines for marketing in some way.
Still, the reason is unknown.
Now the newer batches have been corrected and they're spec'd as the box says (Look on the side of your box, it says 1440x900).
So no you didn't get ripped off or anything, Just didn't get "lucky". -

Ah.. I see, oh well I guess. Still looks great.
So far though, I've noticed a few things...
The CD-ROM Drive is rather clicky in a loud manner.
The Fan comes on for a few moments then shuts off.
It seems a bit sluggish for what it's supposed to be.
Also, if anyone knows..
I have a bunch of .ISO games (COD4) For example.. I installed with Dameon tools, and I have a No-CD Icon Launcher.
Everytime I try to run the game it sais a "System Error" Or some sort.
Same thing happened when I try to play Crysis the same way.
Is it the Computer, or the ISO? -

Coould be vista 64 bit incompatibility. Try right click on what it is you are running and choose run with xp compatibility.
 -

I like my new p-7805u so much that at night I bring it to bed with me.
This is normal, isn't it? -

 Yes
I made the old lady move over (after I am done

 formating her HD)
      -

Thanks, I feel better now.

SemiGamer -
Regarding the "lounge", I would suggest we also include the P-7801u since it and the "5u" are virtually the same.
Maybe a Staff person can change the title when they "sticky" it? (Assuming it gets stuck, that is.)
      -

I need a Gameing chair like the ones you set on the floor no legs, I put my laptop on the coffee table to play crysis while my oldlady looks at the tv ,,anyways I get sore setting there hrs on end any ideas ?......
      -

I have the P-7805u as well. I immediately reformatted and put Vista Ultimate 64 on it from scratch. Updated all the drivers with official Intel and nVidia drivers only.
All my games and Daemon Tools work perfectly.
My CPU is undervolted to 0.950 and working flawlessly still at 2.26ghz.
My GPU is overclocked per the overclock thread without a hitch as well. All my temps, fans, etc are working great.
I had the higher resolution model originally and promptly returned it. I actually prefer to the 1440x900 model. The text is the perfect size and I can run all my games at native resolution with 2x FSAA without a problem (Fallout 3, UT3, TF2, etc). I'm not a big Crysis fan so I don't care about that game.
I'm extremely happy with this laptop. -

It's the CD-Drive and the fan itself. It's both normal. Remove all your bloatware with either a fresh install (pain in the and this PC doesn't have that much bloatware) or pcdecrapifier.
Lastly it's easy to infer your talking about illegal stuff here about games so I'd back off that (as I am instead of finding out the issue and answering it for you). -

Wait, who says running games off an iso is illegal? I personaly run alot of my games like that as i get slightly better load times from doing it this way, and I can put the cd away for safekeeping (having kids had to find away around them destroying the cds) So, yea, I also run my games through daemon tools and have alot of them stored on external harddrives. Does that make it illegal? no, am i pirating my software no, I just needed a better way to keep everything safe.
 -
I too run off iso, its a pain to scearch around for the game dvd, and I have three other gamers in my house, I am the IT dude.
 -

I just installed Dameon Tools Lite and now i have a HD DVD Drive? btw what is the true purpose of Dameon tools? Thanks
      -

Thanks, Wasn't thinking about that when I started it
 was like 4AM haha.

To all mods: If you get around to this thread, please put the P-7801u in the thread title and fix my typo (Don't know if anyone noticed but I seemed to put Longue instead of Lounge)
Congrats! Glad to hear another is satisfied with this little (well big) beast

Go to the system tray icons (Bottom right next to the clock). You should have a Dameon Tools Lite Icon down there. Rightclick on it, Hover your mouse over Virtual CD/DVD-ROM, Hover over Set Number Of Devices. If its not on Disable than you will see 1 to 4 additional drives under "Computer" (Depending on what that I just lead you to is set on).
And Dameon tools is to Mount ISO's and such.
Not going to go into detail on that just in case people look at this looking to learn how to pirate.
I never knew running off an ISO could make the load times so much faster. When I first got this (First gaming PC) I was annoyed as heck by Crysis load times off the CD and everything. Been Running them off the ISO mounted for 2weeks or so now and it is so much better!
      -

I didn't say using an .ISO if you own the software itself is illegal, try re-reading my post. All I said was it's better to leave alone when talking about things like Daemon Tools Lite or other mounting software, .ISO images and installation, cracks, etc and the whole process of anything of that sort because what can be implied and done with it even if its just a backup copy (and FYI for anyone whether you own it or not it is illegal to crack something). This thread or any can easily devolve into How to Pirate Software 101.

I am curious............
Exactly what is an "Owners Longue"?
      -

It's mostly the same as a "Owners Lounge", Berdyne_Hardrock, just spelled differently.
      -
 I found this off another site, this may clear things up;
"See, creating a backup of what you legally own, is legal under the fair use laws. BUT, the movie and game industries have put on a form of encryption on the media. Breaking the encryption *is* illegal, where as having the content backed up is not. (Anyone remember DECSS?) So what we have is a very well crafted Catch-22. The movie industry tried to fight Go-Video back in the day when they release the first Dual-Deck VCRs that implemented a method of copying VHS tapes, that bypassed/ignored macrovision protection schemes. Sony and MPAA tried sueing Go-Video and lost. The first DVD-VHS copying combo players from Go-Video could copy any DVD to VHS. The MPAA went after them again, and this time they settled out of court and Go-Video removed the ability to copy "copyrighted" dvd's to tape.
It's going to be where we don't get to "own" the products we buy. We will only be allowed to lease the products. Our rights are going down the crapper." -

I didn't mean to "Mention" Anything illegal, was just curious if it was something to do with the computer or the files.
Anyway, I'm still new to this pc as I just got it yesterday.. so I'll be exploring it some more.
Halo 2 Runs good on it, I guess I need to go get some new games. -

It's already there. Look at any download service agreements. Paw through the legal documents of it. That's essentially what it is. However you do own it when you physically buy something. Breaking agreements and laws that the US has enacted is not (like illegally downloading stuff, cracking software, etc) because you own any copy from purchase of whatever will never be legal. It's not a Cache-22. You are buying a product, not the rights to it (example, you buy The Dark Knight on Blu-Ray, you own that BR version of TDK that you bought, but you don't own the rights to TDK or BR, so cracking anything on that disc is illegal).
And now it's best if anything of this nature never comes up on the boards otherwise this thread like others will be closed (and rightfully so). -

I love this laptop, except for the heating issues. Chose this over a Toshiba x305-705 (best buy's model) when I returned it, and Im pretty sure I made a good decision. What do you guys think?
 -

It's better than the Toshiba spec wise. And looks wise, haha.
 -

Haha yeah, It is better spec wise but I honestly loved the way the Toshiba looked.
 -

Just got my hands on one last night at my local bestbuy and I got the same resolution 1920 x 1200, lovin it too
 -

 Heat Issues? What're your temperatures?
Congratulations! Whats your batch #? -

batch no:I021851
 -

One thing that took me by surprise was the sheer weight. I didn't think it would be as heavy as it is... gives me a nice workout walking around with it in my backpack
      -

I installed G.R.I.D on the laptop, seems to run flawless.. have everything set at max @ 1440.
Halo 2 Also plays rather well, doesn't look as sharp.. but then again halo never did on the PC.
One thing is the laptop deffiantly gets hot.. going to buy a cooling pad after work. -

Loving the machine - running dual boot vista 64 with win2003 server for gaming.
Had a few issues getting windows2003 or xp to install but now that they're running, I can run my older favorites such as worms armageddon as well as mame and project64k. I use vista 64 for Flatout Ultimate Carnage, Grid, and GTA4 and have seen excellent frame rates and no heating issues.
      -

GRID on mine runs at average 32fps, at 1920x1200x4xMSAA sweet as butter.

With the new info and price on the P-7801u on Newegg, we definately should change this thread's title to the "Official P-7801u/05u FX Owners Lounge"
 -

I just got the P-7805u about a week ago. First thing I did was add another 320GB 7200RPM drive. My drive light (below touchpad) has been flickering ever since (even with nothing running and no activity). Also just got a Blue Screen saying something about a power issue. Wondering if the second drive is pushing the power limitations a bit. Anyone have any ideas?
 -

I have no problem with my 2 hds. Do you have antivirus, win search and index enabled? Win defender is running constantly also. -

Anyone attempt to install WinXP on this machine?
 -

This shouldn't be a sticky, but there should be a combined P 7811 FX/7801u/7805u sticky thread if that makes sense. They are just about the same thing and alot of the problem solution are cross platform for all three systems.
 -
 Interesting -
this thread >>>>>>>>>>>>>*Official*P-7811 FX Info Thread
says:But then there is no "P-7811 Owners Lounge" thread!!
I'm with you on a combined P-78xx Owners Lounge thread.
Maybe one of the Admin/Mod folks will resolve the issue for us?
If not, then I support making this thread a "sticky" so at least the 1u and 5u folks can share stuff and the thread is easy to find an monitor. Of course, I'd correct the spelling of "longue", too.
      -

 -

Well Semi is trying to get this closed or gone so I can remake it, would put specs, how to switch the CPU, good bags, coolers and such.
 -

Making it a 78xx series Lounge, then?
 -
Well I thought just the 7805 and 1..though I guess it would make more sense, I guess that is up to the people
      -

Oh, no - not "the people"!

Seriously, aren't the 1u and 5u very close to the 11? Gateway still has one P-78 Series download page. -
Well there is already a P-7811 thread, and the P-7811 is an older model and has different problems to come with it, I know there is a specific one that a lot of people have..forget what.
 -

Does the 7805 come with reinstall discs? (Hopefully clean ones like Dell does)? I remember that one of the older FX models did, but I don't know about this one.
Have they fixed the crash issues that plagued the 7811? And what's up with the talk that the AC adapter is bad?
What heating issue? I always run the CPUS at 100% (Folding and/or gaming), so... -

7805 does not come with any discs. It gives you the ability to create restore discs though. -

I assume those discs it lets you create are bootable and you can install onto a clean drive? Thanks!
(Now I've got to choose between this system, the Sony AW290, or a Macbook Pro
 )
      -

Yup. I went to BB after my 7805 had the Expresscard latch fail. They took out a new one with a manufacture date of 12/16/2008. Upon turning it on, I could clearly see the larger pixels. I give it back to them and took my "over spec'd" unit back. I might send it in within the year if I do need an Expresscard peripheral.

7801u back to 1600USD again :/
