I don't think you will find OS X drivers for the card reader either from Gateway or the manufacturer. You may look for support in the Linux community as OS X is derived from some BSD implimentations of Unix on Nextep (according to Wikipedia).

Did a little bit of searching, cant seem to find anything on the P-7811FX dvd drive drivers..

my dvd drive refuses to read any disk, I uninstalled the drivers to let vista tell me the drivers were unsuccessfully re installed.

Can anyone point me at some dvd rom drivers?

Hello, I've been a lurker for a while and have upgraded and downloaded new drivers based on what I've seen here. Today, I downloaded CPUID Hardware Monitor, just to see how hot my P-7811FX has been running, and noticed that while playing World of Warcraft my GPU temp shot up to 104 Celcius. Not overclocked, no changes other than BIOS update and installing the Xfastest 177.85. Also, I get occassional spikes where my FPS drops down to 8, from 60-90. I'm going to revert back to my old video drivers and see how that goes, any other ideas? Thanks.

Some easy solutions first, did you elevate the rear of the notebook? And make sure no fans were blocked in doing so? Which BIOS are you running? And I'm assuming the v1.12 HWmonitor? I suggest the 9c.05.00 BIOS if not in RAID - or 9c.10.00 if RAID enabled. :)

Yes, I'm using v1.12.0 of HWMonitor and downloaded the BIOS version 9c.08.00. No RAID at the moment, should I switch to .05? Thanks.

Has anyone had issues with the powerbrick on the cord getting EXCEPTIONALLY hot? As in, it burns me if I touch the thing? To the point of the powerbrick turning itself off and forcing the laptop to run off battery instead of A/C power? Is this normal? Should I get a new powercord because of this?

Mine runs fine. Runs hot and makes that funny noise, but still works. I should have bought that Targus 180 WATT power adapter when it was $30 :(

Does the 7811 come with a Vista install disc or do you have to jump through a lot of hoops to do a fresh install of Vista on it, other than buying a Vista DVD?

So I'm a little confused if these can still be ordered at the BB site. They are in the outlet store section, listed at $1279.99. You can add it to the cart but store pickup is not available anywhere. Does that mean I'm out of luck?

I'm getting a "can't find \sources\install.wim" error message when I attempt to install a fresh Vista x64 using the DVD I got from Gateway with my 7811. Do I have a bad DVD or am I missing something, like a RAID or AHCI driver?

you only have to worry about E-wrecked (or anyone for that matter) being banned if their name is in red and underneath it says 'banned' in red.

    e-wrecked isnt really banned.

Greetings all...I have a 7811 enroute via FEDEX. I've read this entire thread. Lots of good info -THX! Already decided to pick up the 320GB 7200 drive and some cool feet.

I plan to do a fresh install of an nlite version of XP pro. Has anyone installed XP on their 7811 and, if so, any tricks, suggestions, things to watch for?

    TIA

    1) Congrats on your purchase
    2) This laptop was design for Vista (even comes with Vista 64-bit, which IMHO, is better than the 32-bit version. Don't ask me why, but it just feels more concrete)
    3) There's a thread floating around in the Gateway section that explains how to install XP on this laptop. IIRC, not everything will work right though.

Congrats as well! I installed XP, and didn't care for it. The rig is optimized for Vista, as well as the Centrino 2 technology. But, to each their own.. There's a great thread for installing XP and all the drivers, and loopholes, etc. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=295516

Also, I bumped it to the top of the Gateway forum...good luck :)

Too many work-arounds needed..sound for example, is a pain to get functioning properly but once done it works fine. I didn't net any noticeable performance gains. And, I also didn't like the appearance vs. Vista. I hated Vista when it first came around, now I don't care for XP :) It didn't seem to run any smoother than Vista 64bit, benchmarks were less, and then hurdles just to function properly. Was a good waste of 4 hours though.

Yea, 4 hrs is pretty impressive. When I slipstream XP I add some vista appearance and functionality elements, eg., sidebar. Try to get the best of both worlds. Just a lot more comfy in XP.

Probably will try vista first, see how I like it, then go from there. Plus I may experiment with RAID a bit - I understand its a little smoother with vista.

Does anyone have an external esata drive hooked up to the 7811? With Vista or XP?

and yeah.. 4 continuous hours after hitting the "Install" button.. Then, said bleh. Easy decision to say thanks..but no thanks to XP.

For what it's worth, I agree with E on Vista on the 7811FX. It is the first machine on which I left Vista installed. Dang it anyway, I now actually like it (on a capable machine). 64 bit causes a pain with some of my old beloved programs but I just find a replacement. No loyalty in computing.

But win 7 WILL suck when it gets released. It'll take MS at least 2 years after initial release and a SP or two to get it right, just like with Vista :) To be honest, from what I've seen and read of Win 7, if you don't have a touchscreen or special needs (blind, deaf, etc), all it amounts to is prettier Paint, Write, and Calculator and slightly less intrusive security.

actually no. win 7 rocks and thats at pre beta state. it feels much faster than vista and it has a much smaller disk and memory footprint.

    build 6956 performance

i hardly boot into vista anymore.

pre-beta is not a released product. XP and Vista were totally awersome in pre-beta as well, and I can't tell you how many people were so totally awed by Win95 screen shots that a certain widely read industry mag came perilously close to calling it product-of-the-year before they even tested it.

Honestly, I hope Win7 does perform well and have very few issues when it ships, but I've been in the industry long enough to know that the chances of that happening aren't very good.

since i do remember dual booting win3.11 with os/2 on a Pentium 75mhz, i can say that 7 looks to be the best release from MS so far. and to my recollection vista pre beta and betas were horrid at best. anyway lets sit back and watch it unfolds. no need for prophecies.

I just bought a 7811 refurbished off eBay for $950 and am eagerly awaiting its arrival.... I have to say I'm pretty nervous that it will be defective in some way.
