I want to check you auction
give me a link!!

i dont think microsoft cashback will work in a foreign country...will it? might want to check to make sure.
and you wont be paying the exact price; about 100-200 more expensive, depending on shipping. -
hmmmm
Its gonna cost much more with shipment...
I need to think about it carefully. -
link is in your pm.
Well after tax P-7811 costs between $1550-1600 depending on your state. Also even if you got Bestbuy to ship it to your address it would cost you $$. Cashback workson us msn accounts but you can get your monye to another paypal accoutn which does not have to be in us. -
Well it is your call but try shipping a 20lbs package from US UAE.
Thanks for the very explanatory and valueable comment. I am not even going to as "why".
The tarrifs in middle eastern countries and some of the european countries are huge (around %40-50) of the item value. If you get a system from a local reseller in that country you are looking at at least a %20 increase on US price if not more. I know because I lived there for 20 years. -
why did i call it a crap deal? because i live in the US and its available to me. plus, in my state, if you buy it at the right time, you can get it tax free.
for everybody else that its not available to, yeah, it might be worth it. just my .02 cents. -
Considering the rotten exchange rate we loyal Americans are experiencing ATM, it may be a deal. If you have a few British Pounds or Euros lying around, it's half price.
1 British pound = 1.8567 U.S. dollars -
*wakes up* Wha...huh? Oh crap, someone actually read something I posted.
I'm an idiot though because really should have mentioned 1/4 is the maximum length you want.
(ZOMG more screw talk!)
Thanks for making one big 7811 thread, narsail! Might I suggest you fix the price in the first thread and say that it's available for $1449 at Best Buy.
-
Has anyone replace a wifi card on Gateway? Is the bios open for various card replacements or is it limited like Compaq to specific cards?
-
This one was really explanatory. I totally agree with you and that was my point even at the initial post I placed. By the way ?I just slashed another $50 off the price, so now if you use the cashback you are actually getting a better price than bestbuy.
-
I dont think the BIOS should affect that. Its just a Mini PCI-E form-factor card, and should just work.
-
You wouldn't think but just went through a circus with a Compaq Presario mini pci. Good if they left it open.
-
Actually the BIOS can affect such things. Compaq is notorious for locking a particular wifi card to a machine. I had a Compaq F750US and it would absolutely not boot without the Atheros wifi card it came with. And I'm not sure about the Gateway. They seem pretty liberal with upgrades, so something tells me it wouldnt be a problem. Though, I could be wrong.
-
Yeah thats a different brand though, I cant see there being a problem cause it should just work, unless Gateways got something cooking in the BIOS general area.
-
No its not. Gateway is owned by Acer who is owned by Bobs Computer Company, who is owned by Compaq who is owned by HP who is owned by Kraft Foods, who is owned by Proctor and Gamble who is owned by Pepsico, who is owned by Yum Brands who is owned by Disney, who is owned by Comcast who is owned by the Government of India.
Actually, on second thought, you may be correct. :\ -
It's that whole Illuminati thing.
Just wondered if anyone had tried installing a different mini pci express. I guess no news is good news. -
It seems to me, Syn, that I saw a thread where someone with a 6831 had successfully done the swap, but I could be imagining things. I honestly see no reason for Gateway to limit such things as lenient as they are on upgrades.
-
i reckon gateway wont spend money on limiting stuff as its not even spending money on enabling stuff (i.e. vt, raid)
-
LOL. Very good point.
-
with 15% cash back, even to people who can buy it in the usa(those who have to pay tax) it is a better deal then BB. But is the savings of ~20-30 bucks worth having your $250 tied up, buying from fleabay and waiting on delivery? probably not.
for a foreigner it will probably cost what 1600 with shipping? And if the country charges a tariff on it, even if you put it as a gift it might, it will become really really expensive. but it might still be a worth while deal depending on availability of the laptops where you live. -
This makes sense. At least they understand their market, people wanting to upgrade and/or configure.
-

-
I am chargin $120 to ship to Europe via global express which usually takes 3 business days including isnurance and delivery confirmation. I shipped more than 30 computers to Europe and did not have a single shipment hold by the customs since there are couple of tricks you need to do at the customs form so I can not guarantee it but 90% chance that there will be no additional tax.

When people say they "maxed out" Call of Duty 4 and Oblivion on the 7811 FX do they also mean that they're playing it at 1440x900 or 1680x1050 resolution?
-
i would think maxed out on 7811 is 1920x1200
-
This is entirely incorrect, diablo. As a matter of fact, I dropped a T7500 into the new PM45 chipset, and it worked great. This was an issue covered on another thread cause everyone thought it was incompatible. So I was the test dummy. Long story short, the Montevina chipset is backwards compatible with 667/800/and of course 1066 Mhz CPUs. As long as it is a socket-P then the chip will work. Unless the BIOS is just whack, but that shouldn't be an issue. Here's the cpu-z pics an' stuff.

However, the Centrino 2 is *not* compatible with the previous Santa Rosa chipset. I did try that, doesn't work out well. Just a heads up. -

The 9800m GTS is very powerful but I highly doubt that it can play CoD 4 "maxed out" at 1080p resolution.
Can anyone post their settings for the following?
Call of Duty 4
Flight Simulator X
Crysis
Mass Effect
Oblivion
GRiD -
i doubt it as well
just stated what i though maxed out means
thefudd leave hwmonitor running in the background while gaming, "immediately after running...." is not it. -
Agree, the GPU dramatically cools "immediately after running." Nice temp report though, just add the "while running" numbers.

To be clear, and this is from Gateway directly, RAID is ONLY supported on machines with the ICH8 chipset, the manual is generic across all the FX line, and currently (8/24/08) RAID support is NOT enabled in the BIOS although the hardware present most certainly could support it (according to Intel).
Bottom line: until and unless we get a new BIOS which supports it no RAID on the P-7811FX. -
lol we cant even flash the BIOS in the first place, its hard locked and shawdowed.
PS, Dook do you have your thermal pad on your CPU heatsink still? you know that little rubber like gray thing?? -
I've been looking at a P-7811 to replace an HP Pavillion that finally died after three years or so. From everything I've seen, I can't beat it for the hardware specs, however, I was also hoping for an instant-on solution after I started reading about them. Is anyone aware of a downloadable solution that could do something similar?
It sounds like the BIOS is out of bounds on the P-7811, which might make this unfeasible, but I thought I would check at least. I would be reinstalling the operating system after purchase anyway, and if this is something that I could add when I do that or later in the future it would cement my decision. -
Wow, those are good numbers. The GPU temps a HTB (hard to believe)
-
So much for open and upgradable! Could be a deal killer for me.
Well, I suppose it could be perfect and needs no BIOS update - ever. What are the odds? -
Man...i cant until now believe that this laptop have 9800mGTS
I mean other much more expensive laptops like from Toshiba and Asus have only the 9700 cards!!!
And if you check notebookcheck site its as follow:
You see the difference between it an even the 9800mGT in negligible (OCing maybe enough)
Also the included processor is great.....
Really amazing....
If its true that acer own this company>>>>why the hell dont they use the 9800 in their laptops?!!
By the way, No body said anything about the sound quality? -
Built-in sound is okay, but there's no sub-woofer so for a notebook this big the sound is kinda thin. I guess Gateway figured you'd be using external speakers to game; I've got the Bose 3-piece set going and they sound great.
-
Really? Where did you learn this? I'm not sure what that means, hard locked & shadowed, can you explain?
-
I did have the ceiling fan on
-
LOL That must be it.
-
Lol...!!!:d
-
it means what it means. It is locked meaning we cannot edit it at all, we cannot change any FSB speeds etc unless you have an extreme cpu.
When it startsup, you cna change the boot screen from the Gateway one, and it shows specs, ram loading, etc, it claims the BIOS and vBIOS are shawdowed, meaning you cannot reach them. -
Can the 9800m GTS output 1080i to an external monitor using a HDMI to DVI connection ?
What type of firewire chipset is in the 7811 ?
Running an old 1520 right now ( t300, 4gb, 160gb@7200) and considering the 7811 as a replacement.
thanks -
yes, my 8800m GTS can do it to my tv, so you can as well.
-
I could be incorrect.. but BIOS shadowing is when the BIOS laods from ROM into RAM. Esentially, offloading the code into RAM for faster access and boot time. But that shadow image comes from the BIOS itself. So, you can access and flash the BIOS. Then whatever you flash it with becomes the new BIOS, and the new shadow. So no, you can not access a shadow BIOS, because it is a "shadow" of the BIOS itself..but you can change the shadow.
-
Err. That's a big negative. Just a rice-squirt of Generic AS5. Did that on the chipset as well.
-
I just ordered the 7811 and noticed there was no internal bluetooth solution. I also have a 6831 that does have internal bluetooth. Would I be able to swap out the 6831s wifi/bluetooth (I'm assuming the one card is doing both) with the 7811s?
Even better, is there a bluetooth card I could buy and add to the 7811? I'd like to retain the draft n capability but I'd rather have internal bluetooth. -
just get a mini bluetooth usb like one of these:
anyone recommend a notebook cooler based on the 7811's vents?
