I have one more question, it is normal the the GPU fan to fluctuate a lot, even when just surfing the web. It sounds like WOOOOwoooooWOOOOOwoooo...stop...hits 40c...WOOOOOOOOwooooooooWOoo...and so forth.

So from what I read, some P-7811 experiences certain problems such as:

    1. Overheating
    2. Ghosting

Am I missing anything else? Also, when do you (the ones with the lemons) realize these problems? I hope to be getting the 7811 next Monday at a local BB.

Buyers remorse? Seriously? Do you contribute anything to the forums or are you just here to troll and be argumentative?

There is no remorse; not for my current laptop (the 6831) or the 7811 I just ordered. Age of Conan is fantastic, the most immersive mmorpg I've played. For anyone into these types of games, give it a shot if you havent looked at it yet.

Hi, what's the hdd temp everyone is getting. Mine came with a Seagate 7200rpm 200gb.

At idle I'm already getting temps above 50C. I saw a previous post that said 35C.

I'm not using a notebook cooler atm. Just the bottle caps. This is also my 2nd 7811. First one had something wrong with the USB, but the hdd temps were about the same.

Please point out which mainstream game out there requires more than 4GB of ram? Age of Conan has already been criticized for numerous bugs and you're crying at me and trying to justify your purchase of an extra 4GB ram. I was talking about buyer's remorse over your extra RAM.

Stop crying and sit the #@#$ down.

I just noticed after installing a fresh copy of vista and the drivers, that the hotkeys for MCE and DVD does not launch. How do you fix this. There is no Hotkey app on the apps and driver disk.

^ The 7811 FX will trounce the dv7t. The CPU is not a bottleneck unless you play RTS or Crysis. Other than that, CPU shouldn't be a problem at all.

Anandtech and MaximumPC have reviews. Google it.

Q to other 7811 owners: is your 7811 ever silent? Lately it seems like the fan on the left side, which is I think for the GPU, never shuts up. It may be my imagination but I remember my 6860 being pretty quiet for the most part.

I've added a notebook cooler which is on all the time but even before that the fan on the left would go silent from time to time; not for long tho. I wouldn't worry too much but you might have a process or two running you could shut down, maybe take a peek in Task Manager and see if there's something running that doesn't need to be...

Nope, nothing running that doesn't need to be. And my problem is that the fan on the left never goes silent, it's always running at an audible speed.

My left fan is quiet most of the time, then it would go max speed for like 1 sec then quiet back down at idle. (sometimes it would do that 2-3 times in a row)

Which way is your laptop facing? towards you, or away from you? Cause if you can read what I'm typing upside down, and hopefully you can, that's your CPU fan. From what I can tell the CPU side doesn't expell much air, instead it brings in cool air from the outside(back right if you can read this), and expels on other side of notebook(left rear, and edge). You don't need a cooler with this rig.. and if you get one be careful that the fans are BLOWING upwards, not SUCKING downwards..otherwise you may create more problems. The fans on the base of this laptop are intake fans.. Can you seriously not figure this out on your own? No offense.

Ah, so it's the CPU fan that's causing the most noise, thanks for clearing that up. And I'm aware that the fans on the base are intakes, but I'm not sure why you thought I didn't know that as I'm clearly talking about the exhaust fans?

So does your 7811 ever go silent? Or is there a fan blowing, left or right, at all times?

I'm really starting to get frustrated with the absolute lack of anything good in FS/BB. I really want the 7811 and i'm considering going south to pick one up at grand forks. Is it worth paying the border tax garbage/can I avoid the boarder tax crap if I ship it to myself as a gift? also, what the sales tax in North Dakota?

if i go i'll be spending alot of time in the car testing the laptop to see if its totally functional (if not i walk across the parking lot and pick up another :p), cause driving hundreds of thousands of miles to get it repaired isn't as fun as it sounds...

I ordered it online..it takes about 10 minutes to take out the old, add as5 and install the new. There's a quick access cover on the bottom of the computer, take out 5 screws and bam! Actually I'm trying to sell it right now. I have a post in the Buy/sell/trade forum. Just search for x9100 ram, or something like that. Or visit BST and mine is 1st page. Lemme know if ya would like it :)

p-7811Fx sure is cool notebook. Be nice if it came with vista ultimate. I been trying to find if there any way to unlock the bios for more advance settings... so far no luck :(.
I opened my notebook and saw FOXCONN label on mobo, right where the RAMs are. Can any one confirm that if they have same thing?? please.
I am thinking of changing the processor to P 9500 but going to wait abit hope fully price will come down.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819111007

As for cooler i seen some people are going with CRYO LX. If any one going to be moving there notebook around the house or taking out side that cooler will not be good choice. With 3 120mm fans USB cannot power them well enough.

Foxconnn makes almost every single motherboard for all of the manufacturers, I can tell you without looking that my mobo probably says Foxconn on it too.

When I said every mobo for every manufacturer, I meant every mobo, including desktops. ;)

Go ahead and take a look at your ASUS, or your Gigabyte, or your eVGA desktop motherboard. You'll no doubt see a Foxconn label somewhere. In fact, I'm pretty sure their name is right there on the plastic socket clip things.

I'm limited to DFI's ATM but I'll look next time I'm in there. :p

Wait, I do have a couple old Asus and one Gigabyte Me cranking away. So are you telling me my beloved old Asus boards are really Foxconn? This is creeping me out.

Maybe Foxconn just makes a few of the "parts"? Say it's so!

Where can I complain? Asus won't talk to me, I've proved that already.

Yep, your DFI will say Foxconn too. Basically the mobo companies like ASUS design it, and then pass it over to Foxconn to manufacture. And that's not the only thing they manufacture, from wiki:

Among other things, Foxconn produces the Mac mini, the iPod and the iPhone for Apple Computer; Intel-branded motherboards for Intel Corp.; various orders for American computer retailers Dell, Inc. and Hewlett Packard; the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 for Sony; the Wii for Nintendo;the Xbox 360 for Microsoft, cell phones for Motorola, and Amazon Kindle.

Full list of what they make is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foxconn

Any progress or any new idea on how to unlock dam P-7811 FX bios?

Very interesting, Ash. I've always seen Foxconn stamped on different devices such as pic slots, etc. but just assumed those particular parts were manufactured by foxconn. Not the whole motherbord. Good info sharing.

Hrm, you might be right. I tried googling for a confirmation but came up short. For a lot of boards, they might just produce a couple of the components. Other boards though I know for a fact they produce the entire mobo. A couple of ASUS boards and I think the evga 680i series were all rebranded Foxconns.

since people are getting a lot of problems sometime earlier or later on, why not make a thread on what things to check before actually bringing the laptop home which is a thousand miles away from a bestbuy store. this would help all of us potential buyers. :)

The things I can think of I've seen posted the most are:

    1) Lockups, probably due to heat. The only thing you can really do is test playing games for as long as possible to see if this happens.

    2) BSOD's due to prolonged wireless use. About the only thing you can do to test is connect and stay connected and see if this problem crops up.

    3) Problems with the screen. A white spot or something like that. I've read about it but I'm not sure how to explain it well. The way to test for it is to look at it from various angles and especially on a black screen (from what I understand anyway).
