Hey guys, I was wondering what's your average temperatures (cpu, hdd, gpu, etc) for casual use after let's say 4 hours or more? No gaming, just casual use. I've never own a laptop before so I would like to know if my temps are acceptable:

ok.. let's see... i would like to know where i can download these things:
1. complete passmark? -just one click for testing everything with the computer if one even exists
2. hwmonitor - one that works with this laptop (p-7811fx..duh)
3. orthos - don't know what this is for
4. memtest86 - i'd like to know more info about this too
p.s. sorry if i sound a bit demanding but itemizing these things should help this forum especially the new laptop gamers (i, myself, included)
i would also like to know how to do these things:
1. dead pixel utility
2. check for ghosting? (how much of an angle is acceptable? and how to turn up the brightness of the laptop for ghosting if any will be seen)
3. check if my unit has ddr3 memory (or info if they all do, hehe... just want to make sure gateway delivers the goods correctly or if some of you have been cheated) -
-
If you want a program that checks EVERYTHING about your system including temps, OC speed, memory type, etc then definitely check out Lavalys Everest. HWmonitor (from CPUid) can be download directly from CPUid.com http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php
-
thanks jbn... kudos and rep to you!
-
lol... people are so excited about their machines that no one even bothered making a thread with benchmarks and photos or videos that show how superb this lappy is.
-
put them in here, why make ANOTHER yhread about it. I can just add it to the first page.
-
Well my 3DMark06 stock with the 177.92 Nvidia driver is 8566 or something like that, I'll be re-running it once I get MS Office so I can export the file.
-
-
Ewrecked, did you download just the forceware or also the Nvidia driver 177.85 also?
-
Has anyone found an item to clean the lcd bezel of these machines with out scratching the ever loving **** out of it . i have tried everything that i can think of but not matter what i have used everything leaves those nice swirl scratches and im thinking its almost impossible to not get them at this point.
-
I installed the whole package from Xfastest. http://pic.xfastest.com/z/NVIDIA%20%C5X%B0%CA/177.85/XFastest%20177.85%20Vista64.exe
This link should direct download, just extract and run setup.exe. It will do the rest. These are the best drivers period for the 7811FX. My 3dmark06 score jumped almost 400 points, no exageration, just cause of the driver.
EDIT: These are desktop drivers modded for a laptop.. So it won't have powermizer, meaning your video card wont downclock and mess with your gaming. Also, these are very stable if you decide to overclock. Download the new PhysX from nvidia or laptopvideo2go.com and you should be all set. Should be version 8.something for PhysX. Lemme know if ya find the same success I did. -

Hmm, does anyone know if I could shove a T9400 into a P-7811FX? I'm both concerned about heat and whether the bios will actually recognize it. I just don't think a P8400 will be enough for my needs and will probably lag 1080p h264 content.
-
My t5550 played HD(1080P) content perfectly. You underestimate the power of C2D. The P8400 is plenty powerful for everything but the most extreme applications. But yes, the T9400 should technically work. Although I would hold off for a bit as there are a few heat-related issues at hand.
-
No, I don't; you underestimate my 1080p content =P. My T7500 lagged some 1080i content (granted, it had fancy, transparent subtitles).

to...uh...er...save your @$$ -
Not sure if anyone has already posted this, but the new Anandtech review of gaming laptop had some interesting notes for those with the 7811:
http://www.anandtech.com/mobile/showdoc.aspx?i=3396&p=5 -
afaik HD content is not parsed by cpu alone. -
Has anyone run the graphics test for company of hero's and if so could you post your results. I get a rating of good with high fps in the 60's and low at about 17fps with everything maxed on 1440 by 900. Tia..........
-
Can I download the benchmark util somewhere?
-
Well, with the Xfastest 177.85 driver I got 8801 marks with the default settings (meaning I didn't change any settings after installation).
-
Hmm.. And your stock driver?
-
With the stock, I got around 8600 something and the 177.92 update wasn't much of a difference.
-
Eh..well, the 177.85 didn't fair too badly then..my cpu prolly makes up a bit more of the difference I had, but +200pts is better than -200pts
-
For some reason the installer added an extra line in the registry but I deleted it and everything is fine. I created a .reg for if it happens in the future.
Anyway with the computer out of the box with just norton uninstalled and karpesky installed I got a 8750-8800 (I dont remember exactly but I remember it was really close to 8800 , a 8789 keeps popping on my head). This is with all the crapware, kaspersky left running (lol) and everything w/o even bothering optimizing it since I wanted to just stress test the unit.
In a Vista Ultimate 64 with some small optimization I got a 8752 and then 8759. Maybe is just that ultimate is slower dunno but all my 3dmark06 fell within a small error margin.
Anyway I will do a final format (for this month, lol) and check if I get the same error for the drivers.
At least the computer screen is fine, no stability issues and temperatures look fine. -
Oh, and how do the stock 175.80 perform(on ultimate)? Or did you not try? -
3DMark-06 results so far................
Out of the box.- 8757.... not to shabby
177.92 Vista 64-bit drivers-8825
177.85 Vista 64-bit drivers-8780
And as a matter of fact .85 is still running. Been to busy playing Company of Hero's to change em back. I could never find the gts in the inf anyway. It was loaded as a gt. FYI,,,Company of Hero's turns out, does not like direct x10. Once turned off it averages about 55 fps at 1920-1200......I love this thing....
Mind you I have not reinstalled vista either. I might be able to get some more out of it but for the moment I am quite content... -
Also I think I jinxed my computer.
I was going to burn a final dvd before formatting so I closed everything but I had only hwmonitor and coretemp running. And the computer froze :\. As in someone hit pause in a movie the cursor would not move or anything. I found it comical that the fan still did the 1 sec burst thing while it was frozen.
Anyway "luckily" hwmonitor and coretemp where the only windows open so I know the temps when it froze
Cores where at 33 and 34 , gpu at 39 and HDD at 50.
I spent 24 hours stress testing this and trying to "break" it and nothing happened. And it froze while idling :\. So I don't know it seems that the freezing thing might not be a heat issues.
Also a funny thing that I notice was that for some reason Hwmonitor was not showing the CPU so I had to open Core temps to monitor them. Hwmonitor is working fine now. and the temps are still like before Core 30, Gpu 36 and HDD 51. -
-
-
Anyway the bigger issued is that it froze. Hopefully is not related to the other freezing issues mentioned before. I will probably leave the laptop on for 12 days then so if it keeps freezing I will return it or something.
-
hwmonitor - monitors the temps of the gpu, cpu, and hdd
1. run (and please keep it running in the background)
*normal idle temps should be about 40-50 C max*
*ingame, max should be about 70-80 C.*
3dmark06 - extensive gpu and cpu testing
1. install
2. >>settings>change>
a. resolution to max (1900*1200)
b. Anti-aliasing to max and AA quality to max
c. put a check on the checkbox that says loop all selected tests
3.click demo
4.check loop box
5.max out antialiasing
6.run and leave it on for 4 hours or overnight for maximum stressing of the laptop
**after running this just press esc to exit and immediately check temps of hdd, cpu and gpu**
passmark - gpu, cpu, hdd, usb, and everything else
1.install
2.>>tests>run all tests
(feel free to correct the post if you find something wrong with it... im a newbie to this and i did this guide myself) -
Anyone else find Orthos less than happy?
-
I hate orthos, it is the only thing that ever makes my CPU overheat, nothing else I ever do makes it overheat, or even come close. I hate it and do not reccomend it for benching.
-
I'm trying Prime95 multi thread now and it seems to work better or at least work. Top ACPI so far is 60C. Orthos can be quirky, I agree.
OCCT runs fine. -
Hey Syngensmyth. How sturdy does it feel compared to xt5000t
-
So far very sturdy. The battery has very slight give but with manual lock it maintains contact. Screen hinges are smooth and solid. Keyboard is solid and no flex. Keys are well laid out and responsive. Keys don't have any "feedback" so feel "dead" but have good travel distance and register well. I like the keyboard fine. (Left Fn & Ctrl need swapping and KeyTweak can't find Fn so still looking) Touch pad is very good. As mentioned DVD drive is typical laptop DVD drive ... you wonder how long it will live. It is about the same weight as XT5000T, maybe a little heavier. Impressive cooling. I really like it so far. No bumps, warts or defects. It runs Vista with Aero in snappy fashion. The display is wet your pants good. Some light leak on the bottom if you run black screen.
The 7811 has more vents on bottom that the XT5000T's one sad little vent. A base cooler will be much more effective on the Gateway than the Everex I think.
At ambient 74 degrees Fahrenheit = 23.3333333 degrees Celsius
With no extra cooling and just typing this.
When I start to undervolt and run the cooler, I plan on wearing long underwear.
I hope to get the Gateway backup done tonight so I can do some benchmarking. I already have my Drive Snapshot backup or can do clean install so no big deal. -
I believe I may have found the resolution to the lockups and BSOD involving Vista on the 7811FX. I've found 3 webpages that reference the same problems which most of us are encountering. Not on the FX, but on Vista. If someone would be so kind as to go into their start button, type compmgmt and hit enter, then click event viewer, custom views, administrative events. Now, I've never had a vista comp show as many errors and such as this one does..seems to be a lot of internal software and hardware issues. Anyhow, after you expand the admin events.. does anyone else see a WMI error, that occured the same time your computer locked up? Event ID 10.. and details say something along the lines of - Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.
Well.. I've found a couple of resolutions..and by the way, this is the error that everyone says is locking their computer when gaming, or just browsing the internet..some get BSOD, others just get a lockup without access to Task Manager.
Resolution 1) One person, and only one, says it was because of the RAM..the voltage and timings were slightly off and he was able to adjust those per the manufacturer...problem solved. Now, I can believe that is a possible solution with the 7811FX. Not sure if anyone has paid attention to the CPUZ shot of the RAM.. but the timings and such allow for one more stepping of the RAM to a higher speed. However, the MOBO and CPU aren't capable of reaching it on this computer. See pic for details..notice ram is CL8 and maxes @ 610MHz(x2=1220), where as the MOBO is 1066MHz, *maybe* the RAM is getting caught between a clock cycle and between frequencies sending errors and locking up the whole system. Has anyone tried replacing the RAM? Ok..this is theory. And I have a feeling it may be the issue.
Resolution 2) Another forum has a simple resolution.. and it seems to be more common than the RAM resolve.
Here is the fix. Open a command prompt as an admin and enter the following pressing the enter key after each line:
net stop winmgmt
DEL C:\Windows\System32\wbem\Repository\*.*
Now reboot and let the system idle for a few minutes. There will be a couple of WMI warnings in the event log, but thats alright for the moment. Reboot one more time and the error and warning will be resolved.
From: http://windowsforums.org/index.php?showtopic=392
Resolution 3) This is similar to 2..however a bit more in depth, and this is what I will attempt and post results. I can only do one method, obviously.. so good luck and hopefully this solves a lot of problems. Please let me know! And +rep if you're satisfied with results

Please read post 1, and 3, as this is a two part process. -
Bios has beed released
-
Oh ya, we need our serial number, who thought that up.
http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/dlcenter.asp -
How did you get the the HDD to be that low? I never saw my FX hdd temps go below like 48C
-
-
I heard that the P7811 hdd runs hot like 55-60C. Mine is at 43C right now actually, but you can see the temps in my previous post at 57C
-
Maybe I'm a 'tard..but I cant get the BIOS to load. Burned to CD using the ISO..and the CD says it can't find the BCP. Well..any ideas? Oh, and my USB flash drive doesn't allow to make it bootable.
