Removing this god d@#% Gears of war gamers sticker on the right palmrest...has anyone done so without completely mangling the plastic and or leaving tons of sticker residue behind? Any stories of how to get this thing off? Seems if I just started peeling it that I would be left with quite a bit of residue that may never come off  Oh Snap

well removing the sticker is rather easy even though i dont have that laptop but from past laptops that have large stickers.
try to remove it slowly as possible and if any residue remove it with small amount of rubbing alcohol on a cloth.

Rubbing alcohol to remove large portions of paper.
    Hand lotion to remove glue.

I think most people with the 7805u take off that sticker.

Yes, it comes off rather easily - at least mine did.

Just start with one corner and pull slowly and steady.

    I had no leftover residue.

Alcohol is gentle enough that I've yet to see it damage laptop cosmetics.
    Acetone on the other hand....

    K thanks Hep.

Quick question..I have been trying to make backup discs (apps and recovery) and when I go to burn it (through gateway recovery), it gives me an error code 205 "Please insert a blank CD/DVD RW" (but the disc is there?)

    I have Memorex DVD+RW 4.7GB

Obviously this wont work for the 8GB recovery but it should work for the 1.8GB Apps/Drivers?

Also, could I use (2) 4.7GB discs for the 8GB recovery or does it need to be one disc that can hold the 8GIG?

Ha...now Im afraid to take it off because of this thing being a fingerprint magnetic...the sticker covers quite a bit of fingerprint space!

Don't worry, it peels right off perfectly. They made it so that it is easily removed. And if fingerprints are a problem, whiping the plastic covering on the laptop with windex and a piece of bounty keeps my laptop brand new.

it does that for most 7805u's.
call gateway and tell them the problem and they will send you the cd's for free.
it also looks better than blank cd's with 'recovery disk' written with your marker.

you could always do what i did move the hdd over to where the sticker is at play a game for a little while to warm the sticker up and it peels away rather quickly and leaves nothing behind.

Thanks I will peel it off tommorrow morning...I will call gateway to send me the discs..seeing that I hear their CS is a joke does anyone have a good number to call?

Im thinking of possibly painting the orange trim around the keyboard shiny graphite silver..prolly just tape off and prep the surrounding area and buy some model paint...hmm

edit..it may look bad seeing the surrounding trim is silver ; ( Maybe red or blue? hmm

    i love their cs.
first getting the discs for free, and when i broke off my backspace key, I totally snapped the plastic trying to put it back in, and gateway just sent me a new keyboard completely free.
    i like gateway so far.

The stickers you might want to keep. I realized that when I am using keyboard, my watch band will hit or want to rest on that area. I don't want it scratched up, so i take off my watch. FWIW.

This motivational posting has provided impetus for sticker removal from my 7811. Mission accomplished. It had been there so long it did leave some residue around the edges. Alcohol time.

Ditto. I'll keep it on while it's shiny so the laptop looks new...and once it gets grimy I can take it off and make it look custom-built. At least it'll feel that way psychologically.

I guess it just won't advertise nonsense. Fortunately for me, my Tigerdirect Refub didn't come with the Gears of War sticker :D

Lol, I took mine off within 5 minutes of purchase, plastic under it was as smooth as the rest of the laptop. I found the sticker to be gaudy and completely unneeded. Sure, stick it on the one thats out for everyone to use at bestbuy, but why else would you stick it on there...
