Picked up a cpu on eBay that arrived yesterday. Knew it was an ES processor and saw a sharpied 2.93 on the chip. Couldn't read anything else in the listing. Looked exactly like one of the T9800s.

So for $27, I bought it.

Got it in the computer and found out its an E8335 at 2.93GHz. E0 stepping and works a treat!

    :D

FYI, the bios sees this chip as an E8335, not a T9800.

Not that bench marks mean a whole heck of a lot, but just swapping from my P7350 to this E8335, my 3Dmark06 score went from 8,458 to 11,740.

    Pretty impressive.

Yeah, having the true 1066 Bus and 6mb L2 is huge on these systems. The Exxxx series is essentially the Intel Apple CPU series. They function equivalent to the PC CPU's you just have to be careful of the TDP's as they may vary slightly.

Enjoy the new CPU and the added performance. The one thing is with the higher true CPU FSB under load with Furmark you may find temps are a bit higher now but you also should see slightly higher performance.

Yes, the temps are higher. Highest it got with Orthos was 65 C though. Which isn't bad at all. With the P7350, my temps were in the mid 50s C. I am not surprised at all. But I have CoreTemp running at all times and I set gpuz to remember the highest temp on the GPU core. Constantly watching.

Thanks for all your knowledge TANWare. Reading past discussions regarding dual vs quad cores steered me in the right direction.

You are welcome the C2D's are the way to go with these machines. That is until Windows 8 comes out. Even then it will be a fresh install and only if you can deal with the new OS.

I am finding that win8 is much better optimized for the CQD so it does not seem to loose the per clock efficiency that it does with Win7 and prior. But then to get the higher clocks to make it as snappy as the C2D you need an overclockable CQD and then there are the ehat issues.

I should note because of the better efficacy in Win8 temps are generally 4c lower at 3.2 GHz but you still would not be able to run Orthos above 2.66 reliably or without extreme heat issues............

Without having looked at W8, I am very pleased with W7. I feel, more of a hunch, that since the business community has adopted W7, there won't be a migration to W8 on a large scale. W7 is the new XP. XP had a GREAT run for the better part of a decade and W7 is probably going that way too.

That being said, I will throw another drive in there and see what W8 looks like. Though, I may try to make a Hackintosh out of this machine. I have had great success with that on my E7300 based machine and kind of enjoy making stuff work that shouldn't!

what do you think about e8435 3.06Ghz cpu? How can it be compared to t9900 of the same speed but much higher price?

As I have done a little research, it is basically a re-badged T9900. The E8335 is odd as it came in two speeds. But if you look up on wikipedia, they have a section of Apple specific Core 2 Duo chips. It shows the speeds and what model iMacs they were from.

I like EVERYTHING about windows 8 EXCEPT the MetroUI... If I wanted to look at tiles, id go into almost anyone's bathroom... (yes, many people still have tile's in their bathrooms... im not saying everyone's... but I find more often then not, tile bathrooms)...

Its part of the reason I jumped from WindowsMobile6.5 to Android instead of WindowsPhone7... the UI is horrid...

Back on topic, you are one lucky guy for $27! I am hunting for an x9100 but at $200~ its just not worth it... and cant find an P-79 board for going CQD for under that price either...

Still, this P-7805u I just got will go along way replacing my Dell D810 with its Pentium M 1.7Ghz + nVidia GeForce GoFX1400 + 2GB DDR2-667 (the comedy of DDR2 with a 533max FSB...)

I am throwing another hard drive in this computer in the next few minutes so I will be able to dual boot the way I like to; separate hard drives. So I will mess around with W8 in the coming weeks.

The P78 is a great computer and yes, a boat load better than your old Dell. You are headed in the right direction there!

I am lucky for sure on this CPU. Look for mislabeled stuff. I wasn't afraid of buying an engineering sample (ES) and that is where I looked first. Saw this thing listed VERY poorly. Looked it over and took a gamble. This time it worked out.

according to specs e8435 SLAQD is 55w cpu while e8335 SLGEB (2.9Mhz) is 35w... wouldn't e8435 produce too much heat for p-7805u? even x9100 is way easier with TDP with its 44w... Any thoughts?

I was under the impression that it was a 45w CPU.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_...2Penryn.22_.28Apple_iMac_specific.2C_45_nm.29

Ahh, there are two steppings of the same CPU. The E0 is the one you want. SLGEA (E0).

well i have an e8435 on my p7805 and it's definitely faster than stock on everything, but yes it does get very hot on heavy load (to the point that it shuts down, on battery life i have seen that it's exactly the same compared with the stock cpu) but if i underclock it (i do it at 1.1 v) i can get full speed and the temps never go higher than the mid 80's,, it's a great and very fast cpu and cheaper than the t9900 ( i got it for 60 bucks) so if you ask me, yes it's worth it only if you can get it at a low price

Thanks for sharing that. Do you know which stepping of the E8435 you have? One is a 55w and the other is a 44w stepping. C0 being the former and E0 being the latter.

    Inquiring minds want to know...
