I'm going to get a gaming notebook and the Gateway P7808u is one of those on my list and I would like to get some info and advices about it.

How's the company with it's customers?

    Does it have issues?

    How's the quality?

Is the weight very not suitable if I am going to move it around from time to time?

If you can't be bothered to look around for answers in the many threads we have here then we shouldn't bother giving you answers.

In short, its a helluva notebook. No problems.

If you can find a 7808 for a good price, then yeah its a great system. Good GPU and a quad set up. Cant really go wrong with that.

As to the specifics, cant really say we havent seen many people with them on the forums so trouble shooting/problems/loves are a little sketchey

1.) Like every company, there are good and bad stories....
2.) Like every computer, there are always some issues....
3.) Like every computer, there are alwas some quality sacrifices made in the name of economy....
4.) Like, It is a 17" gaming notebook, it is the far end of the exrteem from an ultra portable. It won't break though if you move it but it is no lightweight either....
5.) good luck finding one, They are rarer than hens teeth and you probably are better off waiting for the P-7901u and 260 graphics.........

Thanks for your replies, they were helpful and informative. :)

There are good manners so use them like Kamin_Majere and TANWare.

I searched the forum for what I wanted and couldn't find it so I made the thread, simple enough to understand.

If you shouldn't be bothered to give me answers for my questions then you shouldn't even bother to post in my thread.

Your best choice would probably be the Gateway. I don't have too much experience with Toshibas, and the Alienware is good, but a little expensive. Finally, Best Buy's website is updating, but the Asus gaming computers they have have :)D ) bad problems with heat.

I have more experience with the older Gateways, but they have generally been quality products that game well and don't have too many problems. Good luck with your decision process and your purchase, and sorry for the long post ;)

Thanks for your information and advice and it's fine about your post's length :)

I guess I will focus on the Gateway P FX and Toshiba Qosmio X for now since I find them the most suiting and interesting but I am having a problem with the Gateway since they are not selling their notebooks to my country or region :(

So i sit here patiently waiting wondering if we're getting new Core 2 rigs, or if gateway is waiting until Core7 for a new US release :( :( :( (well maybe i'm not waiting as patiently as i could be :p

I've found some on E-bay and NewEgg so I guess I will get mine from one of those sites and I am going to study abroad within some months and Gateway is there so I am lucky enough if something happens. :)

I have a few things that are still on my mind though

Does it feel comfortable when played on for several hours?

Can it play Aion: The Tower of Eternity on highest graphics without choppy graphics or lags?

Do the scratches on it tend to be very visible and does that line of FX disappear in time by scratches and hits?

How's the build quality? The keyboard, the touch pad, the screen, the camera etc

Can you share with me the things you like and hate about it?

I hate the Fn key location, Ctrl should be in the bottom left. That's the only thing I hate. I use an external monitor/keyboard/mouse usually when I game to avoid this problem, it would be much easier to use the laptop keyboard if the Ctrl key was in the normal location.

I love everything else, the hardware, the quality, etc. I simply hope that it continues to be as fast and reliable as it has been (I've had it since January).

Nice full size keyboard, very nice touchpad (I am very picky about touchpads), even the touchpad buttons work great and aren't hard to press down or linked together in a single button like some laptops. I've never had any comfort problems with it. The screen is absolutely fantastic, although I have a 1900x1200 so I can't comment on the 1440x900. I havent used the camera yet but I will soon after I reinstall onto my SSD raid 0.

Scratches and hits? Enough to remove the FX line?! What are you planning on using your laptop for? I can't imagine spending that much money on a gaming laptop and then treating it so poorly that it gets scratched and hit... if you want a rugged laptop that will take abuse this series is not for you. Get a cheaper laptop that you don't have to take care of as much. The P78** series are very beautiful and well made, but obviously just like any laptop if you start throwing it around there's no telling how long it will last. I can't believe you're planning on it being scratched and hit, what are you planning on doing with this laptop?

In the first post you asked about the weight, with it weighing nearly 10 lbs it's obviously a bit heavy compared to AVERAGE notebooks, however any comparable laptop will weigh about the same.

Ah! that won't be a problem to me

    Good to know :)

    Very good!

    My dear.. :D

I just wanted to know how resilient is the case and colors used on it cause I really care about the way it looks and I will be taking it from location to location a bit from time to time if I go to my cousin's house, friends houses or even when I will go to study abroad but I am very caring for my things so I will be taking care of it so you shouldn't worry that much!

I hope it will be fine enough to carry it from my home to some other house or a coffee shop at least.

Yes it doesnt really feel much different than the average 17" laptop, it's a small difference in weight and size. Obviously I recommend a bag or case to protect it.

    Thanks for the recommendation :)

I will definitely have a bag or case for it though

I'm thinking they're waiting for Windows 7 in the US. We'll know by the 22nd of this month or soon thereafter, I hope.
