I'm a very proud owner of the gateway 7426gx. What I'm looking for is for the utility tool that would let me do this. Trying to change the ati 9550 to 9600. I read this review http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2334
and it has the right settings for the overclocking I just need the tool to do this. Can anyone point me to the right direction of downloading the right tool for this?
    Thanks
    Fredo

I personally use ATITool, it hasn't given me any trouble.

And as a note, the graphics card really is a 9600, it's just underclocked.

Yea I found out about the Ati tool it works nice. You gave save your setting for games, and when your done just put it back on default. I save the game setting to 420 210 I got about about 7more fps.

My brother discouraged me of doing this. He says that over-clocking it too much could wreck it, and I dont want to take any chances. I hope things work out all right.

Ya, if you over-clock it by anymore then around 10-20% depending on the card, it might be unsafe. But OC'ing by about say 10% should be safe.

    Buying one of these:
    ~~Averatec:amd3000+/512mb/80gb/integrated gfx $1000
    ~~HP:amd3200+/512mb/60gb/ati 200m 128mb $1000
    ~~Emachines:3400+/512mb/80gb/9600 64mb $900?

I have the 7426GX and in stock form it can run Everquest II, Half Life 2 and Doom III very nicely. It is in fact a 9600 vidcard but with SO much power on tap from the 64 bit processor, I personally am not overclocking it, I did install the Omega drivers though. Get 'em here: www.omegadrivers.net

    Gateway 7426GX
    AMD Athlon 64, 3700+ Processor
    1 Gig DDR Ram
    100 Gig HDD
    Dual Layer Multiformat +/- DVD/CDRW
    6x Digital Media Card reader
    15.4" Ultrabright screen
    ATI Mobility 9600 w/Omega drivers.
    1x Firewire, 4x USB 2.0
...And the kitchen sink someplace too :)

What kind of performance increases will the Omega drivers have? I just purchased this notebook and it should be here by next Wednesday.

Hey Beammeup, sorry I have not posted earlier, the reason I chose Omega over the ATI drivers is that this machine has SO much power on tap that i wanted to go with better visual quality over even more speed. And after trying both out, i am far more impressed with the Omegadrivers, there is a distinct difference, but again like I said earlier, i always choose quality over speed framerates. Doom III/ Half-Life 2 never looked better :)

The "9550" is a 9600, so bumping the speed to stock 9600 speeds (or even faster) will not hurt the GPU, as it is designed to run faster than even the 9600 stock speeds (300 core, 200 memory). I run my 9600 at 430 core, 230 memory without artifacting or other issues. Incidentally, I was able to overclock the GPU further after upgrading to x64 than I could under XP 32-bit.

The 7426GX has reached EOL status, but on the Best Buy Canada website there is a new model listed - the 7510GX.
