With the OEM VGA drivers, I can overclock easily, but now that I've upgraded recently (especially with the new Nvidia Control Panel), the overclock resets itself every time I hit apply. I tried using the OEM drivers and the overclock sticks without resetting. Anyone else know what the problem is? Could Gateway have locked the BIOS like Dell has?

Just a guess here. I have a MT6451 and when I install XP the ATI control panel allowed me to change the assigned system memory for graphics. When I changed it from say 128 to 256 it would always go back after I hit apply and/or ok. So I would change it to 256 hit apply and/or ok and then immediately restart. When it came back up the changes would be there. Not the same graphics card but thought it may help.

Possible that the overclock feature has been removed, have you done any recent firmware or bios updates? I'm of the impression that you shouldn't clock laptops. Already enough heat being dissipated for it to have that extra heat being added. Lol, I just learned how to undervolt my laptop to reduce heat by the fid and vid. Pretty cool, but scary when I undervolted to low. Live and learn!

Yeah, I was thinking the BIOS upgrade from Gateway.com might've done the trick. I know what I'm doing with overclocking and heat. My laptop idles at 20C and the GPU at 47C. I've applied AS5 on all the components and undervolted with RMClock. Mind you, I've had the older model (M680) with a Geforce 6800 and a 2.13Ghz Pentium M and overclocked the GPU frequently while maintaining adequate temps.

I'm no dummy in this field. :)

Well I do the same thing (rm clock etc.) but since I don't really know you other than an internet forum I was just sharing my personal experience. I apologize if you took any of that to offense. Hope all works out for you!
