I just got my laptop sunday and I keep trying to use the webcam and it either doesn't work when I try to use the Gateway Webcam program or if it does with its with 50hz flickerless instead of 60hz which I thought was our norm? 60hz works for a few seconds then goes black. anyway.. If I open it right now it says "Graph Render Fail" right where the picture should be. The light is not on and no other program is using it...... Ive only got it to work once...

The question is does anyone have problems with their webcam or is it just mine?

Webcam works fine on mine. You shouldn't have any problem with a week old laptop. Best suggestion is return it and get a new one.

    Or..

First create Driver DVD, then System Restore DVD. Then Restore your system back to factory by deleting everything or do a clean install.

Dont forget to make a Driver DVD!

I've been having the same problem with mine my m150xl that I got right after xmas. It works (usually) right after I reboot. But if I use the cam normally, and try to use msn/yahoo it says "camera not found".

Restart, try messenger and it works.

If I let it sit for a little while, back to the error msg for either application. I chatted with someone today, they said it's an error that happens after installing 3rd party software. They sent me to a link that said to do the following, although it didn't work, here is what they said is teh fix for it :

Go to start, type in Gateway Recover Center, and open it
Hardware/Device Driver Recovery/Other/Chicony Webcam bla bla

Select that then click next, then it runs a little thing and it says you have repaired/installed it.

The link's instructions said to restart, so I did, of course disconnecting from the agent. When I booted, the camera app started fine, then nothing on yahoo, then back to cam, nothing.

    UGGH.

There are all kinds of work arounds out there. So far none work. By surfing other forums it is clear that this is a problem that is not exclusive to gateway but appears to be common with chicony.
Their website is poor and I was unable to find any related drivers.
