When I connected the hdmi cable to the tv there's video but no sound. I set the digital out to default and rebooted ect but there's still no sound. Also this isn't the vista that the laptop came with, I changed the hard drive and reinstalled vista and all the drivers. I've installed the 169.09 drivers from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ . Do only the drivers from the gateway site work with hdmi sound??? The hdmi out on this laptop is both sound and video right? I didn't get to try it before formating but there's a nice picture, just no sound :(

So do the Gateway drivers work? Have you tried them?

I haven't tried uninstalling the 169.09 drivers yet. Everything works so nice right now, games, ect. I really don't want to have to go back to the gateway drivers. Is there anyone on here that uses the 169.09 drivers from laptopvideo2go and has the hdmi working with sound? Is it possible that it has something to do with the tv side? The sound color bar on the laptop moves for the digital out, and I can see the green bars going up and down with a movie playing so obviously on the laptop side it's sending sound through the hdmi.

ok... i had to recreate what you we're talking about.. before we start... do you have digital output device (hdmi out) showing up under your sound properties, under control panel?

By sound properties do you mean right clicking on the speaker icon in the right corner and going to playack? There's only 2; Speakers, and Digital Output Device(SPDIF Out). Isn't that supposed to say HDMI Out not SPDIF? Flynnaz are you talking about the same sound properties section?

then you need to download the sound driver from gateway. this will enable your hdmi.

i used drivers for the 6831fx and they worked fine and enabled the hdmi out

So you think it has to do with the sound drivers not the nvidia drivers? I'm positive I installed the sound drivers from the gateway site. Speakers/Headphones work great. I could try installing again, do I need to uninstall the sound drivers first? I'm not sure how to uninstall

Where is that setting? Is it in the actual control panel or in the playback sound panel?

hmm weird I don't see anything like that. The only thing is the control panel is "Sound" which brings up the playback sound tab when I click on it.

its the grey sound box icon in control panal, there is a part wear the panel has a black backgroud, on the right it has your outputs, look for digital out/hdmi, double click on it, or something like that, oh yeah maybe look in the book, lol

I feel so stupid. It was the sound driver. For some reason the microsoft hd audio driver was installed and not the IDT/SigamTel driver :( Got a error instaling it the first time but after a few uninstalls/restarts of the microsoft driver it let me install the correct one from gateway. Now the Digital Output Device(HDMI) shows up as well as SPDIF. Everythings working perfect now, thanks for the help.

I had that problem with one of my lappys, Microsoft installed a mystery driver in place of my blue tooth and media card reader, took awhile to figure out, and system mech pro 7 fixed my media card reader, I do not know how, but I am not complaining.

reason why.... mine worked great as well. till i noticed the hdmi wasnt there...lol and i also noticed that i didn't have the idt audio control panel installed. so i reinstalled the drivers and it all came back. including the idt control panel and the hdmi was now showing up, once again.
