My P-171x fx is rebooting after idle and screen shutdown? I have not pin pointed the problem yet, but has anyone else had this problem. I have my power settings set to screen saver on after 20mins and monitor shutdown after 30mins, some point after that my laptop reboots?

I have also had similar problems to you, if I understand what you're saying.

For me, I have had 2 BSOD's but that isn't the point.

I also have had a few times where the "screen shuts down." I close the lid at times, and when I reopen it, it does not give an image but just a black lighted screen. After a while, which I would consider "idle," the computer gives a memory dump thing with this whole error and it reboots.

It hasn't done this before, and I am suspecting a bad driver or some sort. Most recent one has been after the day I installed 174.74 drivers, which was just last night. I don't remembering what else I've done before, but today, I noticed RM Clock was deleted. Maybe that had something to do with my problems, as I may have undervolted a bit too much. I have reinstalled RM Clock now and have raised the voltage one step up to see if that will be the issue.

    Will report back.

i have had a few problems with rm clock i m thinking... if i play crysis on high while on battery for about 2 to 10 minutes using rm clock, computer shuts off.

i have to use power cord to get it to comeback on. not sure if any of this is related, but thought i would share.

and when my screen doesn't come on after re opening it. i close lid and wait 10 seconds then reopen lid and the screen usually shows.

Well I left my system on for 18 hours now, no reboot, it may have been a bad video driver.

If it happens again, just try rebooting in safe mode so that you can see if its a driver issue or not.

The thing is, it just reboots, I can't see any messages. The good news is it has not happened in a few days, it was probably a video driver issue.

Well its still doing it, it seems to be linked some how when the monitor shuts off, when I try to resume the keyboard does not wake it, when I touch my usb mouse it reboots, go figure. I set my monitor shut off for 1 min to trouble shot, and it does not happen? Its one of those things like taking your car to a mechanic, and the problem you had do not show...lol, at lest it doesn't do it during games etc.

I emailed Gateway tech support on this issue, it may have something to do with my usb mouse, I will check later, in device manager under usb mouse properties make sure that the wake option is on.

    Guys,

I might have a solution for you. I am running Vista Ultimate on PC which was rebooting periodically and always when idle.

I found that Microsoft has cleverly hidden disk shutdown within the fine print of the power plan settings. Go to:
Power options - Edit Plan Settings - Change Advanced Power Settings - Hard Disk - Turn off Disk after ..... change the setting from 20mins default to never.

I thought I had a driver problem too, but it turned out to be that the PC couldn't recover from disk power down ... hhmmm...

Hope this helps some of you guys

    Vin
