I didn't want to continue hijacking the lounge so I decided to make a sepparate thread. I was informed that it's hard to get over 1.5 hours out of this notebook just by surfing the internet. Are there any solutions to this problem? Is there any extended battery available? What if I undervolt the cpu and underclock the gpu?

Huh, I believe the fx6831 (is that the right model number? the first gen model of 6860) which is what I have right now can pull 3 hours of web surfing on power saving mode with lowest brightness setting (which is still very usable except in sunlight). I've done it many times, 1.5 is probably on a higher battery mode with full brightness doing other things also.

Is the 172 FX much worse than that? 3 hours of web surfing + notepad/one note would be exactly what I'm looking for and I wouldn't mind using power saving mode + low brightness in the classroom (less distraction for other students from a bright screen). Does power saving mode completely kill performance or is it still comparable to that of a notebook from +/- 3 years ago?

I have all three, as you can see, and they all last the same.

Is your battery life about the same as zergslayer69's? Also, if you have time, could you please check the model number of your battery on the 171?

You'll get 3 hours with power saving mode and lowest brightness with note taking don't worry.

hummmm, not good for the home team.....48 percent left and been playing a game at about 90-95 percent power level for 30 minutes

edit: just drop it into powersave mode and turn down the screen... now i have 1hr and 5 minutes left.
