I am a big fan of Lowepro bags for DSLRs so I am interested in the Lowepro Tropolis 1300 for the P172X. I found a few posts of folks who have one and mention it fits, but is snug.
Would anyone with this pack mind sharing a couple of pics of the laptop in the case so I can see how it fits before ordering? Someone posted similar pics of the Slappa, the other pack I am considering, and they helped a lot.
Thanks in advance!

lol quite impressed with the outcome -
Nice slideshow! The backpack looks impressive. I notice that there is a pocket on the top/front of the backpack. Does the power brick fit in there? And if so, it doesn't knock against the laptop on the inside, does it?
Lastly, is there a compartment for a laptop cooler or external keyboard or something like that? Hopefully isolated from the laptop to prevent scratching it.
Thanks for posting those! The P-172X looks like it fits in there quite well even with the battery. How tight of a fit is it going into the sleeve that holds the laptop? -
yes the brick goes in that pocket perfectly.
the laptop goes quiet tightly with the battery but its no issue as the pocket sides are made of a stretching garment. usually i put the laptop facing the other way then the nc-1000 cannot scratch its finish, moreover you can put your mouse pad between them.
lastly, the bag has very sturdy corners so even if you get it bang against something there is no chance your laptop is gonna get a direct hit. -
Hi, I am looking at the tropolis 1300 at lowepro.com. Listed as an accessory is the "Deluxe Shoulder Strap" which would allow the neat thing of carrying this around as a shoulder bag. However I can't see in any of the pics any kind of hardware for this accessory strap to attach to, no metal rings or loops at the sides.
My question to the owners of this bag, should I buy the "Deluxe Shoulder Strap" or would it be completely useless for this bag?
thanks! -
no metal rings or loops on the bag, i have no clue how that will work.
sounds useless, as its quite a bulky bag better have it on your back. -
thank you royk50! I won't buy the strap then.
Another question.
In the product description, do "notebook computer sling" and "notebook computer cradle" mean the same thing, that is, by sling and cradle do they mean that the notebook pocket is suspended several inches from the bottom of the bag for protection from straight drop impacts like in the Tom Bihn brain cell?
thanks again, I have a mini trekker from lowepro, love that sturdy shell, and want the same for my laptop, not something flimsy. -
your question is too difficult for me
but let me guess the pocket is where the notebook rest, its suspended but not as far as few inches, as to the sling i would say thats the strap that keep it from steady in the pocket, you can see it in picture 3 on the lowe pro site covering the top of the notebook.

You answered my questions to the fullest. I will be getting this bag.
And to go back to my initial question about the shoulder strap, I found a pic of the tropolis 1250 with a D-ring on the side for the strap. Must be an older version of the bag. They took the D-rings out but forgot to remove the link to the shoulder strap.

Bag is discontinued! Daymen, who owns lowepro, told me. I can only find it on ebay where shipping to canada costs more than the bag. I'll just go to MEC and search for something else.

look here
mkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk -
I wish Amazon.com shipped to Canada
Anyhow, i think i will be able to order it from the borderfree mediated wolfcamera.com, according to the order staff I spoke with, who said the reason why my order wouldn't go through was because this item is flagged. It will become unflagged in 48hrs, I should try again then. -
in the meantime I've been looking at other bags and for the most part nothing compares to the tropolis! I just came back from MEC (REI of Canada) - I went in determined to buy a "decent" laptop bag just to end all this searching - but I didn't see anything "decent" in any of the bags. I would't take any of these flimsy, flappy, flippy, squashy cheap bags if they were giving them away. I guess I've just been spoiled by the excellence of my lowepro mini trekker. I might end up using that for my laptop instead lol.
