well, first off i did a search on this site looking to find answers but im just not good with this technical stuff and the vast majority of the threads ive seen are out dated and dead so here goes this one.
i have the
P-6831 FX Notebook, this following config. http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/2008/GodzillaFX/1015088R/1015088Rsp2.shtml
and i need some help figuring some stuff out, like what the normal temperatures are for the cpu and gpu, atm i am runing it on power saver and its giving me these readings (img1)
but when i play games(the last remnant in this case), or just idling on high performance i get readings on the cpu core of up to 80-90c and according to"rightmark cpu clock utility" once the core temp reaches 78c i get an overheating message.i just dont think its normal.
like ive said im not computer savvy but if anyone s willing to give me some patience and help it would be highly appreciated. and i'll do what i can to provide more information once replies come in.
thanks.

Those temperatures definitely are hot, almost to the point of being dangerous for a CPU. Chances are, there's a lot of dust in the cooling vents. Open the laptop up and clean the dust out to drastically reduce temperatures.
-
Can't see your image of the temp readings.
Anyways, the cpu core going up to 90c is definitely indicative of a problem.
If I remember correctly the stock T5450/T550 cpus should only get to around 60c under load and be at 40~50c idle.
The GPU should normally get to about 70c under load, and ~50c idle.
You should be able to search about overheating and get some good threads about this issue, which I've seen a lot of. I remember some having photos showing where dust like to accumulate and how you can get to it. -
Your image shows normal temps.

I agree take it apart and check for dust and make sure the fans are working, let us know.

kay so i blew the dirt and lint out of the heatsink that i guess works for both the cpu and gpu and i also added new coolant paste to the cpu and gpu the old one (have had comp for about a year now) was basically like used bubble gum.
in short the temps seem to be doing not so bad now (img included) but i still wonder if i can get it down lower, any other tips guys? i already messed around with the voltage a little bit but i dont want to sacrifice any power in exchange for getting rid of the heat and i dont have money so buying a cooling pad or w/e their called is out of the question, however i will do any tech stuff you guys can throw at me =)
btw, current temp is on idle.Attached Files:

You need to see if the temps while under load have gotten under control.

here's an image of the temps under load (playing the last remnant)
the temp comes about 15 mins after starting the game and is still quite high. already messed with the voltage a little bit and cleaned everything out but i still feel thats a high temp, plz anyone have a solution or more tweaks i can pull to lower the temp more?
already lurked around and couldnt find much aside from the cleaning an undervoltingAttached Files:

Undervolting works wonders, it lowers most people's temps by about 10-15 deg C. The best thing is that you can undervolt without sacrificing performance at all, just follow the guide.
Instead of using a cooling pad, you can put bottle caps under the support feet of the laptop to raise the vents off your table and improve air flow. -
welll i followed the guide to undervolting but i cant reallly say im seeing much of a change. i have searched trying to find a way to speed up the fan or to keep it at its fastest speed most of the time but i cant find any programs to help me with that, hopefully someone here knows of a way.
plz guys keep the ideas flowing, lets see how low this thing can go -
I added some rubber feet to my p7805u... they are pretty cheap but I bought a bunch extra in case they came off. They stick really well to the bottom of my laptop and actually I had trouble removing them to place them somewhere else. This cheap upgrade cost almost nothing and lowered my overall temps a few degrees. (This is without a notebook cooler).

i have another temp question what's tzs0 and tzs1?
atm tzs1 goes all the way up to 55c on idle, at what temp should it run? -
I think TZS0 is the for the sensor on the CPU, and I'm not sure where TZS1 is. I'm guessing TZS1 is located somewhere near the chipset. My idle TZS1 temps range from 44-50 in a cold room (I undervolt), so yours isn't so bad.
The undervolting you will notice will help most when you are stressing your system. At idle you wont see much difference. -
Well as stated before undervolting if done correctly will see a definent decrease in temps......another thing that might help is re applying the thermal paste anything from AS5 - ICD7 raising your laptop atleast an inch even helps. i did alot of things to my laptop to gey the temps im getting now.
my temps before my mods were out rageous ...... -
Hello,
I am admittedly a noob with this stuff- I have a 6831 that keeps shutting off on me- I just ran HWMonitor to check temps and this came up -
eForce 8800M GTS hardware monitor
Temperature sensor 0 92°C (197°F) [0x5C] (GPU Core)
Can anyone offer advice? This is just surfing - no gaming!! -

Another question- what is the best way to clean out the machine? (I did admit I am a noob!) -

Just open up the bottom and blow it all out with some compressed air. Shold take care of most of it. if you have some stubborn dust (usually in the fan spindles) use some q-tips and try to rub it until it loosens
