Windows update installed some of its stuff last week( on the 14th) and now i cant get my audio to work at all. Has anyone else gotten this? Ive tried installing drivers (Sigmatel IDT HD audio codec) and that doesnt do anything, i actually rolled back several times to undo the updates to get my sound back, but it would reinstall them every time i shut my laptop down, and i cant turn off updates or else my university internet will not allow access. Im running out of ideas at this point and i really dont want to fudge with BIOS because it intimidates me. Any suggestions?

Have you tried turning the updates on but selecting the version that lets you manually select which to install. Then roll it back and choose not to install that update?

Other than that its weird, a windows update shouldn't have knocked out your sound (but mines been muted as well so we might have the same problem)

by the by what flavor of Windows are you using?

    Windows 7 home 64 bit.

I called Gateway who told me to call MS about their updates, who then told me to call Gateway to get me newer sound drivers. Also it seems gateway is not up with windows 7, none of their drivers are designed for it.

is the copy legit? this happens to unofficial win7 installations ;) making them not genuine and sound is disabled.

restore to point before the update and un-check the update that's causing it

reactivate your win7 copy if it's legit one, or run reactivation tool (Daz) on not so legit copies..
