Yes, it works.
And Yes, oh dear god it is fast.
CPU set at 3GHz, graphics overclocked to 625/900.
Over 10,000 3dmark's in 3dmark06 without tweaking any graphics settings (stock driver).
This is my friends 6831FX, not mine. Mine has a T9300 in it.![]()

ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
1280x854, ouch, that kind of invalidates the whole 'standard' resolution right there.
See if you can hook it up to an external monitor (that supports 1280x1024), and then report what score he gets right after. -
Yeah whats the score with standard rez?
-
Yeah, I'll get him to do that.
He didn't fiddle with the settings at all so that res was set as default as far as I know... -
Please try to ask him to make the benchmark on 1280x 800 and 1280x 1024 and post the results. ! (normal screenshot, not a picture with his camera
)
-
That's almost the same 06 score as on my 6831 with the X9000 in it. Nice processor. -
-
I use the one that came with the comp. and no it doen't hiss...running 24/7 at 2.93+GHz..
-
wowwwww. Well i'm not getting the t9300. lolll how's the battery life?

Of course....600/900 while gaming...I have no need to run it at that clock or higher when doing everyday tasks...gaming sessions usually last a couple hrs. No issues with the power brick. Of course it's warm to the touch but thats about it. I do use a Rocketfish notebook surge protector due to the fact that it runs 24/7 but that weighs no bearing....no unusual sounds before or after.

This thread's first post was about my laptop. Since I'm using this laptop to replace a desktop, I figured the cost of the X9000 over the T9300 would be worth it.
I don't have an external monitor to plug this into (at least, one that runs over 1024x768) to test at a higher res. I'll run it later at 1280x800, but it seems to me that whatever the default resolution 3dmark chooses, that should be res. you benchmark it at. I won't be running my games at 1280x1024, so why should I benchmark at that resolution?
I found that there is only about a 50 point difference when going from a 600 core to a 625 core, and 650 locks up on me. I need to see if the memory will go any further.
Anyone else with an X9000 with this laptop know if there's any way to get the CPU to 3.2GHz? The BIOS's limited options only gives me a 2.8 (stock) and a 3.0 option. I know of other laptops running this CPU at the maximum multiplier of 16x (3.2GHz).
I'm also kind of pissed that even though the CPU's FSB is 800, memory will not run any higher than 667MHz. I put 2 sticks of 800MHz memory in and it -still- ran at 667. Anyone know a way around this either? -
-
We need a bios update to support the 16 multi...only way I'll do it....this appears to be a very well thought out machine so perhaps they know the thermal limitations better than us....seriously what manufacturer wants to start replacing mobos and/or procs due to an overclock that possibly lessens mentioned parts lifespan and possibly then falling under warranty replacement....just my thoughts of course. Pay an xtra grand or more like on the Clevo/Sager and perhaps thats covers the possible risk/expenses...an xtra 200MHz isn't gonna do much for me anyway but of course would welcome the update.
-
T.E.K.,
Is your x9000 still running pretty cool at 3Ghz? -
I run it 24/7 100% load between 60-65c on both cores using Everest to monitor which is well within its limits. Been so long since I checked it at idle though last I checked 41-43c.
-
I just looked at the prices for one of these processors....wow..i can't afford it loll.
-
I'm not made of cash but I do pay my bills on time, have excellent credit, and don't in the least bit regret purchasing this processor....wish you all had the chance to experience it.
-
yea thats the thing. i would rather spend that money on a set of coilovers for my nissan 240sx, rather than a processor.
-
And I'd rather get meself a nice new lens for my dSLR!
-
i just need something that is amazingly fast for a GOOD price. then i will be set to go.
-
Gateway and Nvidia give you a PC that proves CPU speed is becoming less relevant and you still want a beefier CPU?
Just kidding.
Seriously though, you won't see much of a real world boost from a CPU swap - not $300-400 worth IMO. Certainly not $600 worth. I am also tempted to upgrade but I don't think it will hurt to wait. The only game this PC struggles with is Crysis - and another 800 MHz improves nothing from what I have seen in that game.
The X9000 is for people with money to burn. -
All depends on what your utilizing the proc. for.....My primary purpose of purchasing this lappy was/is not to game and the difference of a 1.66GHZ (T5450) and a X9000 running at 3.0 (2.93 according to Everest) is very significant when running a distributing computing project like Folding @ Home as I and others can attest to.....perhaps an xtra 2000 pts. and breaking 10K on 3D mark as well as 15 sec. 1M super-pi times are worth it....to a serious oc'er or computer enthusiast synthetic benchmarks may be his/her real world....I know more than a few...Just some of my thoughts on the "is it worth it" aspect......
-
at a young age, i sureee don't that that kind of money to burn. college is next year :]
-
I've been low-balling an eBayer with a few of these x9000s for about a week.Maybe I'll have one too. But it has to be a 'deal.'
-
-
What do you mean "ES"?
-
Engineering Sample There used for testing etc and not meant to be sold but they always end up on ebay or forums like ours.
-
ahhh, thank you, is there a way to tell the diffrence?
-
Got an ES from Ebay at a very good price. Saved a lot, still got an 1 year written warranty for it and works at 3.2GHz 24/24 on my 570RU so I do not see what the big deal is with ES CPU's.
If I can save £200 and still get the speed I want and some warranty then I am cool with that -
As long as no major hardware bugs were ironed out, no problem.
Intel already had egg on face when one of the old Pentiums did 2+2=5
..and these were released processors, lol. -
um... if your PSU brick is hissing... that means it is about to die...
-
What is the cheapest price seen for a x9000? I have seen around $530.00 as the lowest, not sure if it is ES, How can I tell by looking?
-
mine says es when it comes up as well, but has all the x9000 makings.
-
Intel ES chips are usually more desirable - as I pointed out in another thread sometimes they have the multi unlocked. They go to partners for testing. I used to get pretty excited when Intel would send us updates for our dev platform --- those chips usually took a detour to the test bench for a little while.
You'll be fine.
My x7900 is a newer stepping code, not an ES.
My guess is embrave gets the chips from a notebook ODM.
I am very happy with mine. Games are better, battery life is the same, heat is the same (RAID 0 generates more heat than the CPU upgrade). 3.0 GHz has been stable since I got the chip. -
i guess mine isn't that old then.. stepping is CO
-
I'll be getting an x9000 for my new 6831fx. The going rate seems to be about $400 shipped from China. -
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
Yeah 400 is about right, i got mine form Oz for about 384. So i assume anything around that is about what most pay for the x9000. -
This is my second go round. I imgine the x9000 will be pretty close to the x7900 (+10% or so).
-
off topic.
well i was the first cool kid with a 1920x1200 screen in a 6831/6860.
now ...what do i win??? *LOL* -
-
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
Yeah your rig is about as upgraded as you can get sans memory and HDD if i remember correctly
Speaking of your upgrade history... did you find the blue ray player worth it? I cant figure out if i'm going to skip 1080 movies and just stick with putting a bunch of 720 movies into a server. -
sure, the one out of my dv9740us model fit and worked perfectly.
put some of both for testing purposes later.
