    Hello :)

I just purchased this laptop and would really prefer to move to the XP pro 64 Bit OS to take advantage of 4 gigs of ram which I have ready to go into it. Has anyone made this move ? If so, and if you have any insight, could you drop links here to the drivers ?

I recently had to back track drivers on another notebook and I know it can be a chore. So if anyone has done this and has working drivers you'd be my hero if you'd share them here :)

On a side note does this version of vista and hardware for the laptop recognize more than 4 gigs of ram ? Or is going 64 bit the only way to take advantage of the additional memory.

    Thanks a ton !

You need 64bit Vista to take advantage just like your 64bit XP.

I heard that you can use your existing 32bit key on 64bit Vista. Could be wrong too.

I think they are still trying to get the audio drivers to work under 32bit XP let alone 64bit. I think your best bet will be Vista at this point.

I have sucessfully made the sound driver work under xp32 bit, and I am going to eventually release a complete driver pack for xp32/64. I will start a new thread soon, so this can be covered 100%.

Hey bob that will be awesome. Im actually fighting with vista 64 since my efforts finding the goodies for xp 64 werent complete. Overall getting 64 bit to work has been a chore all around for either side with new laptops lately. I have another brand which recently ran the rounds with. So your pack will be very much appreciated.

Until that time if anyone has a good link set of 64 bit vista drivers i'd appreciate it. You're supposed to be able to use the 32 stuff on CD then they will auto upgrade via vista according to gateway support (which by the way is absolutely ATROCIOUS). However doing that will corrupt the OS install. Not fun. So currently working to track down them down.

My biggest desire with 64 bit install is that I want to use the full 4 gigs of ram installed in the laptop now. But with the current hardware and vista it will only see 3 gigs total under 32 for vista or xp.

    Thanks.

Bob... I'm new to this forum. I really hate Vista and want to switch over to XP Pro... How difficult is it to find the XP drivers? I don't find anything on the Gateway site. As I said I'm new to this forum business and I'm not sure I would know how to find your reply. If you post it I will try, but maybe you could drop me and email. [email protected] Thanks Much!
