Hey all, thanks in advance for any help you can give me. Now, the problem...

My P-6831FX's screen is stuck down, and latched position. I press the button to release it, but only one of the latches(the ones on the right side) holding the screen in place comes loose. The other latch seems to be stuck somehow, unaffected when I press the release button.

Anyone had this problem before, or have any solutions?

No I have not experienced this problem before.Have you tried using a small flat head screw driver to see if you can release the side that is stuck? Also depending on when you purchased it I would take it back and see if they will exchange it for another one and let them know that the latch is defective.Im sorry to hear that you are having this problem with your laptop.

    Hey guys, (first post)

I work for Geek Squad at Best Buy and this is actually a pretty common issue for the FX's I've seen returned. My FX also does this, but only sometimes. It happens when you try to open the lid from one of the edges while holding the button down that unlocks the lid. The solution is to push down at the center so it locks fully, then FIRMLY press the button down and pull the lid up from the CENTER, not the sides. Try that and let me know if it works...

Since beginning I been opening my Laptop by one of the edges, then just last week, I been using the CENTER. I guess I saw the future somehow.

Yep, I have this problem since day one. Also, there is so much flex in bottom half that a slightly non level surface will get you as well. I guess Gateway had to cut cost somewhere

Heh, well, if worst comes to worst, you'd only be breaking the latch, not the screen. :p

Hah, I have run into this issue before on other similar gateways. Just bend the stupid metal rings on the LCD that slide into the laptop. Fixed many gateways that way. Kinda sad but still.

I am from the dorksquad as well.
