we had a 8800m "GTX" BIOS, we never had the 8800m GTS one

I hope this thread produces some tweaked BIOSes. My one major complaint about the 6831 (and FX family) BIOS is the missing Chipset settings. In particular, without a memory hole remap option, Vista 32 can't see all of my 4GBs.

If an experienced BIOS hacker could roll the 965 chipset options into the bland 6831 BIOS, I would be ever so grateful.

I think the smart guys here will open up the chipset's features, but no one has soft unlocked a G92 yet so I suspect there is a hardware modification somewhere that will make a GTS to GTX conversion impossible. Though I would be happy if proven wrong.

yeah, i think it's hard coded and not in the bios either.
    edit: or has been cut....

it is possible i thing that the shaders are soft disabled i don't think they are laser cut.

but if this won't work you will need to find a way to do a force bios update to fix your laptop.

think this will work and we will be happy and proud for this laptop and for our selfs.

would try to do this but i'm waiting a friend to post this laptop to me from US to UK

it's a big risk for doing this bit it may be worth it

if some one will try please mail me your email so we can chat on MSN before doing this experiment

    huh?
    force a bios update?

updating the bios is not the problem, but backing it up/getting a copy/saving a copy/downloading a copy/ getting a copy from gateway/ or anyone else for that matter seems to be the issue. if i had or knew how to get mine to download, i probably would be done by now. and i'm talking about a working copy. meaning that it can be recompiled without errors and re flashed. you come with that and we are on our way... :D

Ok I would had give it a try but i don't have a laptop

there is a way to have a copy of original bios, and if GSX bios doesn't work you will need to do a forced bios update to get your laptop working again.

what you guys are talking about will it make the gts have the same SP's as the GTX?

i was thinking the same thing its probably the same card just locked or different bios like you guys said

don't know about that part really...im more concerned with unlocking them other bios options. over clocking the card is fine and dandy and all, but there is way much more to be had by unlocking or modifying the bios it self.

there are enough gts and gtx roms around to dissect and no one has seen any parts in there having to do with sp's. although your not going to find it using nibtor, you would need a hex editor.

my main reason is to over clock my cpu & the fact that they said it couldn't be done.

umm i'm new to the whole purpose of what these roms do to the bios, the most i know is that they can be used to overclock.

someone plz instruct me on what to do with this stuff?

also, is it possible to use these roms to reduce the amount of shared memory the graphics card uses?

your card isn't using any shared memory

the graphics card is using shared memory. according to DXDIAG around 1.2 GBs of it too

not sure if your understanding that part right, but your video card is not sharing any memory.

and that extra 1.2 gb you speak of is if the system we're to use turboccache memory. you could then get up to that amount of memory. (speculation of course)

hmmm, interesting - because not only DXDIAG but systinfo, & Nvidia monitor been saying that the approximate memory the card uses is 1.7GB

oh well - if u say it doesn't use it then far be it from me to dispute it..

well, you can always do a search for it and ask the long time members here and im pretty sure they will tell you the same thing.

and mine says exactly what yours says in every detail, but.... that's not the amount of memory your using.

run task manager and click on performance and you will have your answer.

and you will probably never ever use more than 256 megs of video memory. (speculation of course) unless your doing some super duper scanning and video editing, but then it uses your ram for most of that.

ohh ok i thought you can overclock the cpu though, i dont now know, but anyway the cpu isnt going to give you that much of an performance increase i mean its already 3ghz isnt it? i read that speeds that high the gpu becomes the main concern

you can over clock from 2.8 to 3.0 (x9000)

depends on what you want as a consumer. im an overclocker so every little bit counts.

and the 8800 with it's 256 bit bus and 512 ram work well together.

once im done over clocking to the limits, none of this will matter any more...lol im just trying to push this computer to it's max potential. then run it normal like any other consumer. :D

I'm looking and thinking for this but i thing there are some other things beside bios and laser cut
