Here Is the link to Gateway's manual for ripping it apart.
My problem was this (I think):
The HDD was ridiculously tightly attached to the case, so I think I pulled the keyboard ribbon cable loose while swapping HDDs, it seemed like the keyboard was malfunctioning, and taking the keyboard of this thing is HARD without instructions. I took the keyboard off, and check the connection (which involved some precise and methodical jiggling) then put it back together, and I'm rolling.
PS: it's REAL easy to drop screws inside while taking off the keyboard, I'm just lucky it dropped against a removable plate on the back of the notebook.

Thanks for the info!

You know what is interesting - the first tow pages show a battery that fits flush with the laptop body.....

Hmm, no how to replace the LCD
I need to swap this wxga for wuxga -
Update: Part of the keyboard stopped working again, same as before, fixed by detaching, reattaching the keyboard. The 1st time I didn't fully detach it, cos I was scared, this time I did. Hopefully it's fixed and not a repeated issue.

Only the Bestbuy versions got the bulky battery but tbh i like the extra battery life and it sticking out doesnt bother me really.
