Edit: It's back on the site today, but it's still sold out (as of this edit). Hopefully they will get an adequate stock eventually.
    ________________________________________________
This may just be a momentary thing, but right now the FX is no longer on the BestBuy.ca website.

This kind of sucks because i was thinking about buying one as soon as more came in stock.

Does anyone have any input or explanation as to why Best Buy stopped selling it?

(I hope someone didn't already make a thread about this)

On a side note this used to be the link to the notebook

I don't see why they would stop selling it being that the P-6831fx is an exclusive to Best Buy. But, all I know is that down here in the U.S. they are hard to come by. You can't buy them online from bestbuy.com either, you can only get them in store only, but it is still viewable on bestbuy.com. Sorry I couldn't be much more help.

    Dang, you snooze you loose.

I knew there was a reason for me to run over to Best Buy moment I heard they had these at the store.

It was weird. Bestbuy.ca had a sale and it was $1299.00 then 4 hours later I went back and it was no longer on the website.

The thing is bestbuy was really pushing HP and you have to figure that they want to sell the more profitable lines. Even on sale the HPs are clearly less of a good deal than the Gateway. So if you have a sale for HP and everyone is buying the gateway (when they don't have any in stock) then the smart thing is to pull it down and hope people buy the overpriced higher profit margin outdated designs from HP.

My back-up option to the Gateway is the ASUS G2S - B2 but it is also $600.00 more and for a worse video card. Arggghhh - I hope that Gateway comes back. otherwise I'll go to the States buy it throw the box away and pretend it's old and come back to Canada so I don't have to pay duty - or the tax. Maybe buy it in a tax free State like Oregon.

The P-6831FX isn't available through Gateway directly, so it is only available in Bestbuy. But, you could probably talk to a Gateway rep in Canada and probably bargain a P-171S FX to the same price as a P6831FX.

I talked to the sales rep and told him that i had been on this forum and had seen that others had gotten the P-171X FX for $1599 instead of $1999 retail. I asked if i could get that price and he gave me that price no questions asked. Mine totaled out to $1784 tax and shipping included. All you have to do is ask. The worst thing they can do is say no lol. ;)

It's back up on the Best Buy site now and it still has the same link. It's also still out of stock though.

I don't know why they took it off the site at all, but I sure hope they are still available when I can finally order one.

Gateway doesn't ship to Canada, so for all of us canucks who want a FX Best Buy is our only hope. Except for those who live close to the border, or have friends or relatives who can order it for them then ship it across.

Now it's disappeared from their list of laptops again, however the direct link still works (for now). The stock availability shows "An error occurred while checking online availability", so I wonder what they are up to. Maybe their removing it from the site again.

I really hope they don't discontinue it here in Canada, especially since Gateway won't ship the other FX notebooks up here.

Edit: The direct link is now down, so it's been completely removed from the site again.

I was told by one of the associates at my local Best Buy that they wouldn't be getting any more in, so I guess Best Buy decided to stop selling them in Canada. :( If your lucky you may be able to find a store that has a demo model and convince them to sell you it, thats what I did.

I don't think that its Bestbuy Canada don't want to sell this and since all Bestbuy in North America are sold out, it pretty much no supply but demand. Gateway is probably shipping whatever they get from the factory to US outlets since it easier and they have more demand then Canada.

Completely and utterly sold out IMO.

I bought mine in early January. It was the first shipment, it did not even have a pricetag yet. I saw the specs and asked the price thinking if it wasd under $2000 I might get it. When the sale guy said $1399 I bought it on the spot.

The store had two. Including the display. The display was gone a week or two ago, and has not been back since.

I bought mine 1359.99 like the first week it came out, thank god...

I am not surprised at all to see it be discontinued like this, because I was really looking forward to the Insignia Pilot MP3 player (Insignia is a BB exclusive brand), but the truth is, it never appeared on BB Canada at all.

I'm selling mine. Not sure how you'll get warranty service in Canada, but here's a way to get one. I'd be willing to ship to Canada since it's so close, but only straight up with the actual value listed on customs. The only thing I would add to send to Canada is the actual price of shipping since it will be more than I'd anticipate. The current exchange rates should work nicely for you guys. Link:
