I got my P-6831FX wednesday and have been playing around with it installing things, getting it setup etc...

Last night after installing winamp and IL2 1946 Collection, I tried playing a video file in Windows Media Player 11, and it refused to play giving some error... I then tried it in winamp and it did nothing. After that, I tried playing an mp3 file in winamp and got no sound, but it was just that... The file would not play, the timer bar didn't move. None of the mp3 files on my machine will play.

Also, I tried Crysis and there is no sound in that either. I haven't tried other games yet but I'm guessing sound isn't working with them either. When I was installing the IL2 collection, it brought up Direct X installation which I cancelled before it started because I already have DX10 on the laptop. I ran DXdiag and everything looks ok there, no error messages.

I might run DXwebsetup and see if that does anything, but somehow I doubt it will... I'm not really sure what's wrong at this point.

Right click the speaker in the system tray and select 'Playback Devices.'

Make sure you have speakers set as the default. This laptop has three audio outputs - speakers/HDMI/SPDIF

Earlier I did something similar, I just to control panel, and then sound. After I hit Sound, windows came up with some message saying some "audio enhancer" may be causing a problem and asked if I wanted to delete it... I did so and it works fine now.
