I modded the necessary ini's and inf's to use the latest SigmaTel/IDT HD Audio driver available from the Intel site, >>Here<<.

To use, download the driver then extract the contents of the .exe file into a folder. Download the attachment from this post then extract the contents to the proper folders located in the driver folder you just made. Click "yes" to overwrite if it asks.

To install simply double click the setup.exe inside the driver folder you created. Since the driver is now modded it will no longer be digitally signed, when asked, click on install this driver anyways.

I have also enabled the tray icon, as well as the mic-array boost. Tested and working on Vista 64-bit, I have not tested on the 32 bit version.

    *Use at your own risk*

Gateway doesn't provide a 64-bit version for the P-6831fx. The driver they do provide works, but was not intended for 64-bit, and is almost a year old. The one on the intel site is the latest I could find. The date being 5/6/08 I believe.

The reason I was looking for a 64-bit version is I was getting terrible noise/interference while using headphones. I was getting feedback through the speakers from the HD and other electronics. With the new driver everything works perfectly, no noise. Plus I modded the inf to enable the tray icon for ease of access, plus the mic-array boost option because I like having that option available to me.

seems to work on x86. First run through I already had IDT drivers installed and it errored out on me, wanting to reboot and try again. I did, Vista reinstalled as generic HD audio (vs. IDT), I reran the setup again and it works.

Obviously these are newer than the gateway postings. no issues yet. Mass Effect has been cracking up a bit on me hopefully this will fix that.

    disable touchpad:
mouse properties / device settings (synaptics pointing device v9.1.17 15feb07)

u have a box you can tick : "disable internal device when...."

as to the camera, put the light in front of you, behind the laptop that should do it - basically just turn around ;)

You can disable that in the IDT control panel. Un-check the circle next to "Allow reconfiguration pop-ups" or on the tray icon, un-check "enable jack monitoring"

Well the title of the Intel driver says "...allOS...", so I imagine that it would work even for 32 and 64 bit XP... if properly modded; thus avoiding having to do the driver file hacks that AFAIK are the only way to do it now => extra rep points for u ;)

    Good find.

You are correct. It should work on all OS's. The trick is getting the driver to recognize your device/hardware ID. While the driver does support a large number of laptops, seems mine was left out. I only use Vista, so I only modded the files needed for it.

Thanks everyone for the rep points.

There is no Setup.exe in the file you attached.

*EDIT* Scratch that, I'm an idiot.

You rock! For some reason, my sound installation was completely jacked. I couldn't use any of the mics on the laptop. After installing the updated drivers + your mod, its working great!! Thanks for the effort!!

could you mood the sound driver to work with gateway 6860fx running windows XP x64 version? i've installed it and was able to get everything working except the sound. When i launched Devil may cry 4 ant xp x64 bits it runs a lot faster than in vista x64 that comes with gateway 6860fx installed. Please i olny need to get sound working now to have the perfect game machine with me. I was able to set all to high an antialising on and the game runs more then 60 fps at xp x64. please help me make sound work
