I've mostly been playing FFXI on it and it was fine, but when I tried some music and videos, I found myself having to turn the volume down to 25% so the speakers wouldn't screech. This normal for laptops/this model?

    Agree,

They suck big time, my right speaker vibrates with anything over 20% volume. My 4 yr old HP lappy kicks this gateway model in the teeth with the quality HK speakers it has.

Yes the speakers in this laptop are not as good as the speakers in my Toshiba. HK speakers rock. That is one thing that I wish was better on this laptop was the speaker system. But they suffice and I suppose that we could always use a pair of external speakers like narsnail previously posted.

Gateway has done a great job finding these speakers to cut costs.

Man, these has got to be THE most cheapest speakers on this planet.

Will say it again... haha. Buying a laptop for speaker quality is like going to a crack house for vitamins :p

Well, I actually love these speakers, then again I came from a 7-year-old Packard Bell.
